  • Publication number: 20190193226
Abstract: The radial run-out tool (2), particularly a drill or a cutter, has a basic body (12) extending in an axial direction (4) and comprises at least two chip grooves (14), to which a guide chamfer (22) is connected in the rotational direction (24), with a ridge (15) being formed between them. A radial clearance is connected to the guide chamfer (22). In order to enable simple and economical production of such type of radial run-out tool (2), an unprocessed rod (30) is ground non-concentrically, in a first process step, such that a radius (R) of the unprocessed rod (30) varies, depending on the angle, between a maximum radius (R2) and a minimum radius (R1). In a second process step, the chip grooves (14) are grounded down such that the guide chamfers (22) are formed at the positions with the maximum radius (R2) and the radius (R) is subsequently reduced downstream of the respective guide chamfer (22) in order to form the radial clearance (28).

  • Patent number: 10213845
Abstract: A rotary tool designed as a modular drill, extending in an axial direction along an axis of rotation. It comprises two coupling parts: a carrier; and a cutting head that is attached to the carrier so as to be exchangeable. The carrier includes pin receiving means, into which a coupling pin of the cutting head is introduced in a clamping manner and so as to be reversibly exchangeable. The pin receiving means and the coupling pin have torque sections and clamping sections that correspond to one another and are oriented parallel to the axis of rotation. In addition, to prevent axial pull-out, stop surfaces are provided on the pin receiving means and on the coupling pin, the stop surfaces being effective in an axial direction and corresponding to one another. These stop surfaces preferably extend horizontally and therefore perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 10086444
Abstract: The invention relates to a drill tip (2) comprising a base body (6) having chip flutes (22A,B) and extending in the axial direction along an axis of rotation (8) and having at least two main cutting edges (14A,B) on the front face thereof extending outward in the radial direction to a cutting corner (16A,B). Seen in cross section, the base body is asymmetric relative to rotation about the axis of rotation (8) at the height of the cutting corner (16A,B). The cross section of the base body is simultaneously designed having symmetrical spacing from the main cutting edges (14A,B). The drill tip (2) is in particular designed as an interchangeable modular part of a modularly designed drill tip (5). A drill base body (4) in which the drill tip (2) can be inserted can therefore in turn be designed symmetrically.

  • Publication number: 20180093330
Abstract: A cutting tool (2)—in particular a rotary tool—is described, having a cutting edge (4) from which a rake face (6) and a clearance face (8) extend, characterized in that a groove (12) is introduced into the clearance face (8) in a region along the cutting edge (4) so that a part of the clearance face (8) is formed as a wear face (14) that extends between the groove (12) and the cutting edge (4) and is bounded by the groove (12) and the cutting edge (4). The groove (12) advantageously limits the wear of the cutting tool (2) in the region of the cutting edge (4) on the wear surface (14), so that overall the frictional forces that occur are kept small and the service life of the cutting tool (2) is extended. Furthermore, a cutting element for a cutting tool (2) as well as a method for manufacturing the cutting tool (2) are described.

  • Patent number: 9802258
Abstract: The drill head (2) extends along a rotational axis (24) in the axial direction (22) and has a central area (6) on the front with first main cutting edges (26), an intermediate area (8) connecting thereto, and an outer area (10) in turn connecting thereto with second main cutting edges (30). The intermediate area (8) in this case expands in the axial direction (22) toward the outer area (10) and in particular forms an expanding conical shell. A centering effect is hereby achieved via the intermediate area (8).

  • Patent number: 9662719
Abstract: In order to ensure good guidance of a drilling tool at the start of a drilling operation and at the same time ensure a reliable evacuation of a center chip, in the drill bit, in a tool flank adjoining a respective main cutting edge, an additional point thinning is recessed in the region of a transverse cutting edge, which additional point thinning, extending in a principal direction from the tool flank, merges, with a convex course, into a chip flute. As a result of the convex design, an as far as possible homogeneous, edge-free transition into the chip flute is obtained. Since the point thinning is additionally made, the tool flank, even in the rear end facing away from the cutting edge, remains at a front axial position, so that a second land is effective for a reliable guidance of the bore already at an axially front position.

  • Patent number: 9604285
Abstract: A rotary tool, in particular drilling tool, extends along a longitudinal axis and has an end surface; a brad point; and at least one major cutting edge extending outward up to an edge corner. A first free surface segment adjoins the major cutting edge, and a second free surface segment in turn adjoins said first free surface segment. To keep the stress, in particular the wear, low in the region of the end surface, the first free surface segment has a lower average abrasiveness than the second free surface segment.

  • Publication number: 20170021434
Abstract: In order to achieve a long service life for a machining tool, in particular for a solid carbide drill, it is provided with a special wear protection coating. In a first method step, in order to form this coating, a first layer made of a first material is applied in the region of a cutting edge and in the adjoining surface regions, and specifically, a flank face and a rake face. In a second step, the applied first material of the first layer is selectively removed at least partially, and preferably completely, only in the region of the cutting edge. Finally, in a third method step, a second layer made of a second wear-resistant material is applied both to the cutting edge and to the face regions. In this way, a coating having a high overall thickness in the face regions is made possible, without the risk of cracking.
