Publication number: 20080165213Abstract: To provide a drive circuit, a drive method, a display device, and a projection display device capable of increasing contrast of an image a mean gray level (first gray level characterizing brightness) Gf is detected from an image signal DATA per unit time. On the basis of the mean gray level Gf, a variation signal ?S is set. By supplying the variation signal ?S to an opposing electrode, the image signal DATA applied to a liquid crystal layer is modulated. In accordance with an increase in the mean gray level Gf, the gray level of an effective signal applied to the liquid crystal layer (image signal modulated using the variation signal ?S) is set to be greater than the gray level of the unmodulated image signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2008Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Hiroyuki Hosaka, Hidehito Iisaka

Patent number: 7352348Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of the present invention provide an image rearranging unit that synthesizes an input image with a delayed signal thereof and arranges an image having a horizontal frequency n times larger than a horizontal frequency of the input image in a signal arrangement according to scanning of a scanning driver, to thereby obtain a write image. The scanning driver selects n scanning lines spaced apart from each other in one horizontal period of the input image and drives pixels with image signals having the same polarity between most adjacent lines. Thus, a horizontal electric field can be reduced or prevented by a plane inversion driving. Adjacent to a blanking period having a polarity, a write operation by an image signal having an opposite polarity is performed. In this case, however, a low level blanking signal, for example, is also used, instead of a blanking signal. Thus, in the blanking period, the write operation of the image signal is not affected by a high black level ghost.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2005Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Hiroyuki Hosaka, Hidehito Iisaka

Publication number: 20070273628Abstract: An electro-optical device includes a display unit that has a plurality of pixel portions constituting a display area on a substrate and an image signal processing. The image signal processing circuit generates an image signal that sets a first subframe frame luminance of the pixel portion in a first subframe and sets a second subframe luminance of the pixel portion in a second subframe. The first subframe and the second subframe are obtained by partitioning a first frame of a first frame image signal. The first frame has a frame luminance. The first subframe luminance is higher than the frame luminance and the second subframe luminance is lower than the frame luminance.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2007Publication date: November 29, 2007Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Shigemi SATO, Hidehito IISAKA, Hiroyuki HOSAKA, Takashi TOYOOKA

Publication number: 20070103585Abstract: In the moving image display device of the invention, a synthesis circuit inputs signals representing specified values of pixel rate factors R2 and R3 from a pixel rate factor specification circuit, while inputting overscanned frame image data D1 in the units of pixels from a 1st latch circuit. The synthesis circuit extracts a preset number of pixels corresponding to the specified value of the pixel rate factor R2 from a prior frame image, while extracting a preset number of pixels corresponding to the specified value of the pixel rate factor R3 from a latter frame image. The positions of pixels to be extracted from the latter frame image are complementary to the positions of pixels to be extracted from the prior frame image. The synthesis circuit combines the extracted pixels of the prior frame image with the extracted pixels of the latter frame image by a logical OR operation to generate intermediate frame image data D2.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2006Publication date: May 10, 2007Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Kesatoshi Takeuchi, Takahiro Sagawa, Hidehito Iisaka

Publication number: 20070097260Abstract: The synthesizing circuit inputs signals representing the brightness coefficient K2 and the brightness coefficient K3 from the multiplexer, and inputs the overscanned frame image data D1 in pixel units from the first latch circuit. When the start frame image read the third time and the after frame image read the first time are input simultaneously, the synthesizing circuit calculates the brightness coefficient K2 for the brightness value of the pixels of the start frame image, and calculates the brightness coefficient K3 for the brightness value of the pixel of the after frame image. Then, it synthesizes the pixels of the start frame image and the pixels of the after frame image for which the respective brightness coefficients were calculated, and generates the intermediate frame image data D2. As a result, it moving image flicker is suppressed using an easier method than in the past, and it is possible to realize smoother moving image display.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2006Publication date: May 3, 2007Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Kesatoshi Takeuchi, Takahiro Sagawa, Hidehito Iisaka, Mitsuhiro Inazumi
