    Abstract: A client (such as a PC, portable telephone, PDA, electrical appliances), to which a device such as a IC card is connected, starts a handshake protocol to request a server to start communication. When communication is established via the handshake protocol, the initiative of communication is transferred to the server, and the state changes into a neutral state. In this neutral state, a control packet including a particular number of messages and a finished message is transmitted from the server to the client. If the client receives the control packet, the client performs a process according to the messages included in the control packet. This makes it possible to remotely control a device via a network in a highly reliable and efficient manner.

On the other hand, the portable terminal 5 can connect to the electronic money server 2 via the Internet 3. Thus, the off-line payment terminal 7 connects to the electronic money server 2 by using the portable terminal 5 as a relay device by using the communication network connection function of the portable terminal 5 at the time of payment. In this way, the electronic money server 2 can connect to the off-line payment terminal 7 and make payment by using the value of the account of the portable terminal 5.

If the mobile terminal determines that the volume of the detected ultrasonic waves corresponds to a received ultrasonic wave pattern that appears while the mobile terminal is near the ultrasonic wave emission source, the mobile terminal transmits a value shift request to an electronic money server that then subtracts a predetermined amount from the server-side value balance, and transmits amount change information which increases the terminal-side value balance by that predetermined amount. An IC module then updates (increases) the terminal-side value balance.

    Abstract: The object of the present invention is to shorten time from when a predetermined condition is satisfied till when recharging is completed. A mobile terminal directly requests an electronic money server to perform recharging. In response to this, the electronic money server secures funds and then generates a command group for recharging.
