  • Publication number: 20040023591
Abstract: In a sealing structure of an EL element of the invention, there are inhibited a fluctuation of a width of sealing resin, infiltration of moisture in a portion formed with an organic EL element and breaking of a device substrate formed with the EL element. In this structure, a sealing glass substrate is mounted on a quartz plate, and a device glass substrate is absorbed by an absorbing plate. The organic EL display unit formed on a main surface of the device glass substrate and a desiccant layer formed on a main surface of the sealing glass substrate are disposed facing to each other. There is provided on a main surface of the absorbing plate a convex portion for applying a load by the absorbing plate to the sealing resin. The load is applied by the absorbing plate until a gap between the device glass substrate and the sealing glass substrate becomes a predetermined gap.

  • Patent number: 6639640
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display having liquid crystal sealed between first and second substrates opposing one another, the first substrate is provided with data lines (56) formed overlapping pixel electrodes (58). By forming color filters (1) in a layer between the data lines (56) and the pixel electrodes (58), the distance between the data lines (56) and the pixel electrodes (58) is increased, reducing parasitic capacitance generated therebetween. Effective voltage application to the pixel electrodes (58) is thereby accomplished, allowing increase in contrast. No decrease in transmittance is caused because the thickness of the planarizing film (2) is not increased.

  • Patent number: 6590628
Abstract: The response speed of liquid crystal is enhanced by reducing a distance d between a longer side (42) of a display electrode and a linear portion (51) of an orientation control window (50). On the other hand, a larger orientation control window (50) (corresponding to a smaller distance d) results in undesirable decrease in contrast of the liquid crystal. Further, the effect of increase in response speed is diminished when the distance d is smaller than the range of 25 &mgr;m to 30 &mgr;m. Therefore, the distance d is preferably in the range of 25 &mgr;m to 30 &mgr;m, and the window (50) preferably has a width of 7 &mgr;m. An LCD configured to satisfy the above conditions allows improvement in contrast and response speed.

  • Publication number: 20030067268
Abstract: An opposing substrate which is subjected to desiccant application, baking, UV cleaning, UV sealant application, or the like and an element substrate having EL elements formed thereon are affixed together by applying a sealing liquid such as silicon oil in a vacuum. Subsequently, when exposed to a normal atmosphere, the opposing substrate and the element substrate are adsorbed to each other while a predetermined gap is maintained in between. In this state, the UV sealant is cured with UV irradiation. It is thus possible to enclose the sealing liquid between the opposing substrate and the element substrate using a simple manufacturing method.

  • Patent number: 6540406
Abstract: A double row bearing includes a shaft and an inner ring mounted on the shaft. A preloading collar is fixedly mounted on the shaft and an elastic member is disposed between the inner ring and the preloading collar so that the preloading collar applies a predetermined preload to the inner ring through the elastic member. This structure compensates the reduction of the preload due to the temperature rise of the bearing and axial displacement of the inner ring of the bearing.

  • Publication number: 20030024593
Abstract: A liquid-filled engine mount is disclosed which includes a rubbery elastic member interposed between an engine and a vehicle body, a diaphragm positioned in opposed relation to the rubbery elastic member. The engine mount defines a liquid chamber therein. The liquid chamber holds an actuating liquid therein. The liquid chamber has a partition wall disposed therein. The partition wall separates the liquid chamber into primary and secondary chambers. The primary chamber is provided on a side of the elastic member while the secondary chamber is provided on a side of the diaphragm. The partition wall has first and second orifices extending therethrough. The first orifice communicates with both the primary chamber and the secondary chamber. The second orifice communicates with the primary chamber. The first and second orifices provide different resistances to the liquid flowing therethrough.

  • Publication number: 20030017777
Abstract: A display substrate and a sealing member are affixed, an element formation surface of the display substrate having an electroluminescence element formed thereon and the sealing member having an adhesive applied thereon in advance on the side opposing the element formation surface of the display substrate. After the affixing process, pressure is applied to the adhesive which is applied in a manner to surround the element layer formation region of the display substrate by pressing the substrates, to deform the adhesive and to achieve a predetermined gap. The adhesive is irradiated with ultraviolet light and is cured, to adhere the substrates. During the application of the adhesive before adhering, an opening is formed in the application pattern of the adhesive in such a manner that the opening does not close by the application of pressure. After the substrates are adhered with a predetermined gap therebetween, the opening is closed to completely seal the element surface of the display substrate.

  • Publication number: 20030011737
Abstract: A glass substrate of a display panel onto which an organic electroluminescence (EL) element or the like is formed is sealed by affixing the glass substrate and a sealing member such as a sealing glass onto which an adhesive has been applied. During this process, the temperature of the adhesive is controlled by, for example, controlling the temperature of the nitrogen gas to fill a chamber through a temperature adjusting device, so that the viscosity of the adhesive is adjusted. In this manner, quick and precise sealing of the display substrate by the sealing member and the adhesive can be achieved.
