  • Patent number: 6525894
Abstract: A method of mounting a volume from a tape medium on a tape drive apparatus. The method reads a bar-code indicating the volume from a tape cartridge, attaches the tape cartridge to a tape drive, and detects the current track position on the basis of a longitudinal track. The method then determines whether a beginning volume label or a last used area volume label is nearer to the current track position, reads the nearer volume label from the tape medium, confirms the volume by comparing the nearer volume label with the bar-code, and mounts the volume onto the tape drive.

  • Publication number: 20020154588
Abstract: A signal is reproduced from a recording medium. The reproduced signal is sampled in response to a clock signal to get a sampling-resultant signal. A transversal filter includes a delay line having taps and delaying the sampling-resultant signal, multipliers for multiplying only alternate ones among signals appearing at the taps by tap coefficients to get multiplication results, and an adder for adding the multiplication results into a filtering-resultant signal. A temporary decision device operates for calculating a temporary decision value of the filtering-resultant signal according to a temporary decision procedure, for calculating a difference between the temporary decision value of the filtering-resultant signal and an actual value thereof, and for generating an error signal in response to the calculated difference. The tap coefficients used in the transversal filter are controlled in response to the error signal and the reproduced signal to minimize the error signal.

  • Patent number: 6277468
Abstract: The present invention provides a paper-laminated metal sheet having a structure in which at least one sheet of paper is laminated on at least one side of a metal plate via a pressure sensitive adhesive agent or an adhesive agent layer, and a protective layer is formed on a top surface of the paper-laminated side. With this structure, the paper-laminated metal sheet can be processed without wetting the paper with water, while thereby preventing the paper from being torn. In addition, the aesthetic appearance derived from the paper is kept for a long period of time. Due to high strength and processability derived from the metal base material, and high aesthetic appearance unbelievable for a metal plate derived from the paper, the paper-laminated metal sheet is valuable in various applications as a novel material.

  • Patent number: 5993939
Abstract: A permanent magnet material is prepared by cooling with a chill roll a molten alloy containing R wherein R is at least one rare earth element inclusive of Y, Fe or Fe and Co, and B. The chill roll has a plurality of circumferentially extending grooves in a circumferential surface, the distance between two adjacent ones of the grooves at least in a region with which the molten alloy comes in contact being 100 to 300 .mu.m on average in an arbitrary cross section containing a roll axis. Permanent magnet material of stable performance is obtained since the variation of cooling rate caused by a change in the circumferential speed of the chill roll is small. The variation of cooling rate is small even when it is desired to change the thickness of the magnet by altering the circumferential speed. The equalized groove pitch results in a minimized variation in crystal grain diameter.
