The second linear sensor includes a second linear reading region for detecting the second side edge of the paper. The data processor processes the data obtained by the first and the second sensors. The first and the second sensors are arranged in a manner such that the first and the second linear reading regions are positioned transversely to the transfer direction. The data processor detects the tilt angle between the paper and the transfer direction based on the positional information of the first and the second side edges obtained by the first and the second sensors.

To reproduce a recorded moving picture, a scene worthy of note is accessed by using the bookmark. When moving picture information is recorded, picture recording time of a specified screen region is stored in a manner that picture recording actual time of a desired scene is associated with the bookmark and, when reproduction is made, access is made to the scene based on time between picture recording actual time of the scene and of the specified picture screen region and image information of the specified picture screen.

With this reference time, a synchronizing controller controls a video decoder and makes the decoded video data and the changed over audio data synchronize and plays back and displays the audio data and the video data.

    Abstract: A variable bit-rate encoding device is provided that can perform a variable bit-rate encoding process at high rate. The subtracter 103 calculates a predictive error between compressed frame data and motion-compensated reference frame data and then outputs it to the code-amount allocator 107. The code-amount allocator 107 calculates and stores the power for each unit section of a predictive error. Thus, at the time the image data has been completely processed, a target code amount allocated to each unit section in a second pass encoding is decided based on the power of a predictive error of the whole image data and based on the power of a predictive error for each unit section. The motion vector memory 114 stores a motion vector for each macroblock. Upon an actual second pass encoding, the motion compensator 115 motion-compensates the reference frame input from the frame memory 116 according to the motion vector value and then outputs the motion-compensated reference frame to the subtracter 113.

    Abstract: In an image sensor chip (A), the number N of the image reading picture elements is defined as N=n·k (other than an integer multiple of 16). The n represents the number of image signals processed as a group when the image signals from the light receiving elements are subjected to level correction on a group-by-group basis. The k is the minimum: integer satisfying O<(n·k−g·p)<n. The g is the resolution defined as the number of image reading picture elements per predetermined unit length. The p is the minimum difference between required different reading widths as calculated on the basis of said unit length. When a plurality of such image sensor chips (A) are arranged in an array, the excess ratio of the array length of the image sensor chips (A) relative to a required reading width can be rendered constant.

A picture-synthetic section synthesizes the subordinate picture data converted by the subordinate-picture-data-converting section on the main picture at the designated synthesizing positions.
