  • Patent number: 8054481
Abstract: This invention relates to a printing apparatus or information processing apparatus, which is connected to a peripheral device management apparatus and holds updatable resource data. The printing apparatus or information processing apparatus asynchronously receives an output job and resource data used upon processing the output job from the peripheral device management apparatus connected to it. Upon receiving the resource data, reception of a new output job after the reception of the resource data is stopped. When it is determined that the process of a print job, which has already been received and queued, is complete, the held resource data is updated by the resource data received by a reception unit.

  • Patent number: 7882180
Abstract: There is provided a monitoring apparatus which makes it possible to efficiently update modules on which the monitoring apparatus operates by remote control from a management apparatus. The monitoring apparatus carries out communication with the management apparatus by e-mail. When the monitoring apparatus receives other modules for updating the modules in the monitoring apparatus from the management apparatus by e-mail, the monitoring apparatus automatically updates the modules to the other modules. The monitoring apparatus collects version information on the modules when receiving a version information acquisition request from the management apparatus by e-mail. The monitoring apparatus sends the collected version information to the management apparatus by return mail.

  • Patent number: 7812990
Abstract: Provided are a data processing apparatus and method that make it possible to detect improper resource data that has been stored in a printer. The data processing apparatus, which is connectable to an image forming apparatus that refers to resource data when an image is formed, first acquires information relating to resource data that has been stored in the image forming apparatus and stores the information on a hard disk. Next, improper resource data is detected by control exercised by a CPU in the processing apparatus based upon the acquired information relating to the resource data. After prescribed processing is executed with respect to improper resource data that has been detected, information relating to prescribed resource data is provided to the image forming apparatus via a network controller.

  • Patent number: 7421214
Abstract: A centralized monitoring system for managing maintenance information of an image forming apparatus has a database for registering a device identifier, to identify a device including an image forming apparatus or a local monitoring apparatus that goes between said image forming apparatus and a server system, as master information. The centralized monitoring system obtains the device identifier communicated from the device. In response to the obtaining of the device identifier, the centralized monitoring system responds to the notifying device to communicate the maintenance information indicating an operating status of the image forming apparatus, even if the obtained device identifier is not registered in the database. Then, if it is determined that the obtained device identifier is not registered in the database, the centralized monitoring system determines whether the device identifier is registered in the database or not.
