The polarizing plates each have the direction of polarization substantially parallel to the orientation of molecules of the liquid crystal near the side plate of the liquid crystal which each polarizing plate confronts, and one of the polarizing plates is a color polarizing plate.

    Abstract: An air induction control device for an internal combustion engine is composed of an air passage for communicating upstream and downstream sides of a throttle valve in an intake passageway when opened, a valve member movably disposed in the air passage to open the air passage in response to pressure differential between the upstream and downstream sides of the throttle valve in the intake passageway, and a diaphragm member mechanically connectable to the valve member so as to open the air passage in response to vacuum prevailing in the intake passageway downstream of the throttle valve, thereby effectively controlling air induction to the engine, even when the throttle valve is closed during normal engine deceleration and at sudden engine deceleration or during operation of engine accessories at idle throttle state.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic polymer composition containing (i) a modified block copolymer of an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene compound, which is modified with a dicarboxylic acid or the derivative thereof, or the ionically crosslinked product of the modified block copolymer with a univalent, bivalent of trivalent metal ion and (ii) a thermoplastic polymer having a polar group. This thermoplastic polymer composition has excellent mechanical and other properties. The compatibility of each component in the thermoplastic composition is remarkably improved.

    Abstract: An olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a solid catalyst (I) and an organometallic compound (II), wherein said solid catalyst (I) is obtainable by reacting an organomagnesium compound (a) soluble in hydrocarbon solvent and represented by the following formula:MgR.sup.1.sub.p R.sup.2.sub.q X.sub.r(in the formula, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, identical or different, represent a secondary or tertiary alkyl group having 4-6 carbon atoms, X represents a negative group containing O, N or S atom, p and q represent a number of 0-2, r represents a number of 0-1, and p, q and r satisfy: p+q+r=2) with a compound of titanium or vanadium having at least one halogen atom (b), has a high activity, is uniform, has a high density, is suitable for continuous polymerization of olefins, and enables to omit the catalyst removal step after the polymerization reaction.

    Abstract: In producing a block copolymer resin having vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer blocks such as of styrene and polymer blocks primarily composed of conjugated diene such as of butadiene successively through living polymers using an organolithium compound as a catalyst in an aliphatic solvent, the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer for forming the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer block is added at a controlled rate, at the stage when the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon content in the polymer formed has reached a certain value, higher than the polymerization rate of the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer at the polymerization temperature but at a rate which can maintain the solubility parameter of the liquid phase portion in the polymerization system at 7.7 or less, whereby a block copolymer resin with good transparency and impact strength can be produced with good productivity.

The above composition is excellent in impact resistance, surface characteristics and rigidity.

This method is superior to the prior art with respect to ease of reaction, high reaction efficiency and safety. Further the complex is safe during storage and handling.
