  • Patent number: 4223645
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprising a combustion chamber and an accumulation chamber which are interconnected to each other via an accumulation valve. The accumulation chamber is filled with catalyzer pellets for reforming the combustible mixture accumulated in the accumulation chamber. The accumulation valve is opened during the compression stroke. In the first half of the compression stroke, a jet of the reformed combustible mixture is spouted into the combustion chamber from the accumulation chamber to create a strong swirl motion in the combustion chamber. In the latter half of the compression stroke, the combustible mixture in the combustion chamber flows into the accumulation chamber where the combustible mixture accumulates under high pressure, and the mixture is then spouted into the combustion chamber at the next cycle, from the accumulation chamber.

  • Patent number: 4222237
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for internal combustion engine of the type having an intake conduit for supplying air-fuel mixture to the engine, an exhaust conduit for conducting exhaust gas discharged from the engine to a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas, secondary air supply pump driven by the engine for supplying secondary air to the exhaust conduit and detector for detecting oxygen content of the exhaust gas. The negative pressure in the intake conduit is compared with the differential pressure produced across a restriction disposed in the secondary air supply conduit thereby to control the quantity of the secondary air supply so as to be proportional to the quantity of the intake in dependence on the result of the comparison. The output signal of the oxygen detector is utilized for modifying the above control.

  • Patent number: 4210105
Abstract: Disclosed is an internal combustion engine comprising a combustion chamber and an accumulation chamber which are interconnected to each other via an accumulation valve. The opening operation of the accumulation valve is controlled so that the accumulation valve remains opened during the compression stroke. • Patent number: 4178896
Abstract: Controlled exhaust gas recycling can be accomplished by a pneumatically actuated valve which restricts the flow of exhaust gas from an exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine to the intake manifold. Exhaust gas may be removed from the manifold and enters a pressure chamber through a reduction means, such as an aperture in a plate. The effective cross-sectional area of hydrodynamic flow of the reduction means is chosen to be greater than the effective cross-sectional area of hydrodynamic flow of the valve. The valve is actuated by a diaphragm control means which is coupled to the intake and exhaust manifold. The diaphragm control means controls the amount of partial pressure applied to the pneumatically actuated valve according to the exhaust pressure from the exhaust manifold.

  • Patent number: 4164032
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a computer control system of an exhaust gas recirculation device for an internal combustion engine, wherein values of the parameters of desired EGR ratios when various conditions in the engine intake system exist are preliminarily stored in the memory of the computer, and wherein a value of a parameter is read out from the memory by detecting a value of the engine condition during its operation. In the system, values of temperature correction factors with respect to at least one temperature characteristic of the engine are also preliminarily stored in the memory. A temperature correction value is read out from the memory in accordance with a detected temperature value of at least one portion of the engine. The computer calculates the amount of EGR needed from the read out values of desired EGR and temperature correction and produces an electrical signal for controlling operation of the EGR value.
