  • Patent number: 4069797
Abstract: An apparatus for recirculating exhaust gases, wherein an exhaust gas recirculating passage provides communication between the intake and exhaust passages of an internal combustion engine. A constriction is provided in the passage, and a control valve is provided in the passage downstream of the constriction. A negative control pressure passage introduces a negative control pressure from a port in the intake passage to the control valve. A pressure chamber is interposed between the constriction and the control valve, which pressure chamber has a pressure therein which is substantially equal to atmospheric pressure when the control valve is opened and to that in the exhaust passage when the control valve is closed. A first operating valve opens the negative control pressure passage to the atmosphere when the pressure in the pressure chamber becomes substantially atmospheric.

  • Patent number: 4066056
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculator wherein a double diaphragm type flow control valve is disposed in a recirculating passage which couples an exhaust system and an intake or suction system of an internal combustion engine. The flow control valve includes first and second diaphragms, and is formed with a first pressure control chamber partitioned by a first diaphragm and a second pressure control chamber partitioned by the first diaphragm and a second diaphragm. Vacuum is introduced into the first and second pressure control chambers from vacuum ports provided in the vicinity of a throttle valve of a carburetor. Thus, the stroke of a valve shaft of the flow control valve and accordingly the opposing area between a valve body and valve seat of the flow control valve are controlled in two stages, so that the single flow control valve can control the amount of recirculative exhaust gas in two stages.

  • Patent number: 4041913
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculating system including two flow rate control valves which are actuated by means of diaphragms. The negative pressure in the intake system of an engine is independently introduced into diaphragm chambers of the aforesaid two flow rate control valves. Thus, the total quantity of recirculating gases is controlled by taking as a reference the quantity of the recirculating exhaust gases being introduced into a first flow rate control valve and adding to the aforesaid reference quantity the quantity of the recirculating exhaust gases being introduced into a second flow rate control valve.

  • Patent number: 4005692
Abstract: In a carburetor, a branch passage is connected to the fuel-air mixture passage for charging exhaust gases back into the fuel-air mixture. A control valve is positioned in the branch passage for regulating flow of the exhaust gases and a first spring biases the control valve into the closed position. A throttle valve in the fuel-air mixture passage is operatively coupled to the control valve by a linkage arrangement so that the two valves can be operated together. The linkage arrangement includes a second spring which permits movement of the throttle valve without corresponding movement of the control valve. Further, the linking arrangement provides a certain amount of play between the movement of the throttle valve and the control valve so that the operation of the control valve can be delayed relative to the opening movement of the throttle valve.

  • Patent number: 3999524
Abstract: A control system for controlling the opening of a throttle valve of a vehicle comprises a throttle valve actuating mechanism and a diaphragm apparatus including a diaphragm member which divides the casing of the diaphragm apparatus into two chambers, the first chamber being communicated through an orifice and air chamber with an intake manifold leading to an engine while the second chamber being communicated directly with the intake manifold. When a vehicle is decelerated, the vacuum in the intake manifold is increased with the result that the vacuum in the second chamber is increased while the vacuum in the first chamber does not increase, because of the presence of the orifice and air chamber so that the vacuum in the second chamber will become higher than that in the first chamber, pulling the diaphragm member toward the second chamber, which drives the throttle valve actuating mechanism to actuate the throttle valve to open to feed more air fuel mixture, thus preventing misfire.

  • Patent number: 3974806
Abstract: In an carburetor where a shaft is positioned within a bearing section and there is no lubricant, such as oil or water, used between the shaft and bearing section, a flow of pressurized air is directed through a passageway into the bearing section and then into a slot which extends in the circumferential direction so that air can be directed axially between the shaft and the bearing section. The flow of air prevents the entry of any alien substances, such as dust or moisture, into the space between the shaft and the bearing section.
