Patent number: 6696701Abstract: An electronic device (10) comprises an array of pixels (12), arranged in rows and columns (14,16) with row and column address lines (18,20) for addressing each pixel (12). Each row and column address line is connected to two discharge lines (30,32) through a discharge circuit (38). The circuit allows the passage of charge between the address line and the first discharge line (30) when the address line is at a potential below that of the first discharge line, and allows the passage of charge between the address line and the second discharge line (32) when the address line is at a potential above that of the second discharge line. This provides electrostatic discharge protection against an increase or decrease in voltage on the row or column address lines during manufacture of the device. By providing suitable voltages on the two discharge lines during operation of the manufactured device, it is possible to prevent the discharge circuit from operating, thereby saving power.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Jason R. Publication number: 20040007273Abstract: In a liquid pressure control system including a spool-type control valve mounted between a liquid pressure source and an actuator in such a manner that an output liquid pressure from the liquid pressure source is controlled in accordance with a thrust exhibited by a linear solenoid, a manually operated valve is disposed in a valve housing of the control valve to have an operational axis parallel to an axis of the linear solenoid. The manually operated valve is capable of blocking the communication between the actuator and the control valve and bringing the liquid pressure source into communication with the actuator to bypass the control valve. Thus, the supply of a liquid pressure to the actuator can be secured in any abnormality of the control valve, while enabling a reduction in size of the system in an axial direction of the control valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2003Publication date: January 15, 2004Inventors: Satoshi Noda, Shigeto Ryuen, Hideki Furuta, Hidetoshi Watanabe, Masamichi Kagawa

Patent number: 6471814Abstract: Disclosed is a method of accurately, simply forming a light absorbing layer for improving contrast in a transmission screen including micro glass beads two-dimensionally arranged. A light absorbing layer made from toner is formed on glass beads held in a transparent adhesive layer up to a thickness sufficient to cover the glass beads. The light absorbing layer is irradiated with parallel rays of light in the direction from a transparent substrate, to melt and remove only a portion of the light absorbing layer positioned over a light outgoing portion of each glass bead by the energy of the rays of light converged through the glass bead. By suitably selecting a material of the light absorbing layer, openings can be formed in the light absorbing layer by means of combustion, sublimation or ablation due to the energy of the converged rays of light.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2002Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Tomotaka Ito, Hidetoshi Watanabe

Publication number: 20020122379Abstract: A dielectric part 4 comprising a nitride layer 7 and an oxide layer 8, laid one upon the other, is formed on a data-recording layer 3. A light-transmitting layer 5 is boned with adhesive to the dielectric part 4. Since the dielectric part 4 is interposed between the data-recording layer 3 and the light-transmitting layer 5, the organic material of the data-recording layer 3 does not diffuse into the adhesive that bonds the light-emitting layer to the dielectric layer 4. Additionally, the data-recording layer 3 is not deteriorated due to the oxygen plasma generated during the process of forming the oxide layer 8, because the oxide layer 8 is provided on the nitride layer. Since the nitride layer 7 has a thickness of 10 nm or less, it does not influence optical enhancement effect.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2001Publication date: September 5, 2002Inventors: Sakuya Tamada, Hidetoshi Watanabe
