    Abstract: An apparatus is configured to perform a method for optimized route mobility. The method includes determining that a mobile node moves from a first network to a second network. The method also includes, in response to determining the movement of the mobile node, receiving, at an access/gateway router of the second network, a prefix delegation message from a router of the first network, the prefix delegation message configured for movement of an IP prefix associated with a communication session of the mobile node from the first network to the second network, the prefix delegation message comprising the IP prefix previously allocated to the first network. The method further includes updating a routing table to reflect the moved IP prefix.

The method includes establishing a first Packet Data Network (PDN) connection between a user equipment (UE) and a first Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) associated with a first group of Serving Gateways (SGW) within a first geographical area; establishing communication with a handover destination SGW associated with a second PGW, the second PGW associated with a second group of SGWs within a second geographical area; and upon a determination that the UE moves from the first geographical area to the second geographical area, establishing a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnel connection between the first PGW and the handover destination SGW, and updating the first PDN connection to use the GTP tunnel connection between the first PGW and the handover destination SGW.

    Abstract: An embodiment method for session handling for a connection between an UE and a network includes establishing, at a first distributed EPC, user and IP sessions over the connection through the first distributed EPC. The first distributed EPC includes a first PGW at which the IP session is anchored. The method also includes holding original IP resources and releasing original connection resources for the sessions at the first distributed EPC when the UE moves beyond the first distributed EPC to a second distributed EPC. The method then establishes a tunnel between the first PGW and a second PGW for the second distributed EPC. The tunnel utilizes the original IP resources and new connection resources at the second distributed EPC. The method then routes data from the tunnel, through the first PGW, and to the network.

A preferred embodiment comprises a home local mobility anchor and two or more distributed local mobility anchors, wherein the distributed local mobility anchors have a reduced functionality from the home local mobility anchor. A first distributed local mobility anchor may send an initial data packet from a correspondent node to the home local mobility anchor, which may route the initial data packet to a second distributed local mobility anchor where a mobile node is anchored while also sending the location of the mobile node back to the first distributed local mobility anchor. Subsequent packets can be sent by the first distributed local mobility anchor directly to the second distributed local mobility anchor and bypassing the home local mobility anchor.

    Abstract: A method, system and device for achieving an optimized mobility routing path are disclosed. A preferred embodiment comprises a method of cutting unnecessary network tunnels. In a mobile network system, transmitting data packets through a tunnel is an effective way to provide network location privacy. An optimization method is proposed to consolidate two tunnels connecting with a network element such as a first distributed local mobility anchor (D-LMA). The first D-LMA informs a data packet sender such as a second D-LMA of the destination address saved in the first D-LMA. The second D-LMA updates its destination address accordingly and sends subsequent data packets to the destination directly. By applying this optimization method, a network system provides a further optimized route for data packets as well as location privacy.

    Abstract: Single radio handovers (SRHOs) between heterogonous networks can be facilitated using several techniques. One such technique includes activating a receiver of a target radio interface in a mobile node without activating a transmitter of the target radio interface, thereby allowing the mobile node to perform target network discovery while the transmitter of the target radio interface remains deactivated. Another such technique includes encapsulating link-layer discovery frames into media independent handover frames (MIH), and then tunneling the MIH frames over a tunnel extending through the source network. This may allow the MN to achieve various handover related tasks without activating the target radio link. Another technique includes establishing a schedule (or delay period) for synchronizing deactivation of the source radio interface with activation of the transmitter in the target radio interface.
