  • Patent number: 8521161
Abstract: A system and method for communications device and network component operation in an ID/Locator Split Based heterogeneous network is provided. A method for control node operation includes receiving an attach request, and attempting to authenticate/authorize the communications node. The attach request is a request from a communications node to attach to a heterogeneous network. The method also includes if the communications node authenticated/authorized successfully, causing an identification and a location to be assigned for the communications node, completing an attachment for the communications node, and transmitting information to the communications node. The method further includes if the communications node did not authenticate/authorize successfully, sending an attach reject message to the communications node. The identification and the location are separate values.

  • Patent number: 8413354
Abstract: A system and method for performing a handoff is presented. A preferred embodiment comprises initiating a pre-handoff registration of a piece of user equipment prior to the actual handoff in order to pre-register the piece of user equipment with the new access network. During the handoff a tunnel may be created from the original access network to the new access network in order to tunnel data packets that would otherwise have been lost prior to the completion of the handoff.

  • Publication number: 20120177003
Abstract: A system and method for single radio handovers are provided. A method for controller operations includes receiving a first message from a mobile node. The first message is transported in a first network. The method also includes transforming the first message into a second message. The second message is to be transported in a second network. The method further includes sending the second message to a point of access in the second network. The point of access is a target point of access for the mobile node in a single radio handover.

  • Publication number: 20120087357
Abstract: A system and method for supporting mobile node mobility are provided. A method for delivering a packet to a communications device having a destination address includes retrieving information related to the destination address from a second layer of a local portion of a distributed route information database, where the information includes binding information about the destination address and a care of address for the communications device in a visiting network to which the communications device is connected. The method also includes tunneling the first packet to the care of address.

  • Publication number: 20110170479
Abstract: A method and system for optimizing mobility routing are disclosed. A preferred embodiment comprises a first system of networks that comprise a home local mobility anchor and two or more distributed local mobility anchors, and a second system of networks separate from the first system of networks. Packets of data may be transmitted from a correspondent node anchored in the second system of networks to a mobile node anchored in the second system. Additionally, packets of data may be transmitted from the mobile node to the correspondent node.

  • Publication number: 20110080872
Abstract: A method and system for optimizing mobility routing are disclosed. A preferred embodiment comprises a home local mobility anchor and two or more distributed local mobility anchors, wherein the distributed local mobility anchors have a reduced functionality from the home local mobility anchor. A first distributed local mobility anchor may send an initial data packet from a correspondent node to the home local mobility anchor, which may route the initial data packet to a second distributed local mobility anchor where a mobile node is anchored while also sending the location of the mobile node back to the first distributed local mobility anchor. Subsequent packets can be sent by the first distributed local mobility anchor directly to the second distributed local mobility anchor and bypassing the home local mobility anchor.

  • Publication number: 20110080866
Abstract: A method, system and device for achieving an optimized mobility routing path are disclosed. A preferred embodiment comprises a method of cutting unnecessary network tunnels. In a mobile network system, transmitting data packets through a tunnel is an effective way to provide network location privacy. An optimization method is proposed to consolidate two tunnels connecting with a network element such as a first distributed local mobility anchor (D-LMA). The first D-LMA informs a data packet sender such as a second D-LMA of the destination address saved in the first D-LMA. The second D-LMA updates its destination address accordingly and sends subsequent data packets to the destination directly. By applying this optimization method, a network system provides a further optimized route for data packets as well as location privacy.
