  • Patent number: 4639778
Abstract: The DPCM (differential pulse code modulation) for color television signal transmission has been improved both in picture quality and information compression, by a vector signal quantization called embedding quantization. According to the present invention, vector signal comprising a plurality of elements is quantized while the quantized output signal is obtained after a plurality of quantization and prediction operations. Number of repetition times of the quantization and prediction is for instance equal to the number of elements composing vector signal. A vector is for instance composed of three elements relating to red, green, and blue primary signals of a color television signal.

  • Patent number: 4536745
Abstract: An input digital signal with M(=5) samples/second is converted to an output signal with N(=6) samples/second with n(=9) quantization bits. The device comprises parallel shift registers each having bit length P+n(P=11) for accepting an input signal with bit length n; an address converter for providing the continuous P bits in input signals from each of said parallel shift registers for every shift operation of said shift registers; N groups of ROMs (read only memory) storing the predetermined value in each address which is designated by output of said address converter; a shift register adder for accumulating output of said ROMs with shift operation; and an output gate coupled with output of said shift register adder for providing a converted output signal.

  • Patent number: 4224642
Abstract: For recording and reproducing analog audio signals by a pulse-code modulation scheme so as to permit effective compensation for dropout errors, an incoming audio signal is sampled, and the analog samples are converted into a sequence of coded pulse groups or words. These words are grouped into successive notional blocks, and the odd and the even words, for example, of each block are divided into sub-blocks, as by sequentially writing the words of each block in successive storage locations in a memory and by retrieving the odd, and then the even, words from the memory. The sub-blocks of the successive word blocks are recorded in different regions on a recording medium such as magnetic tape. After being reconverted into an electrical signal from the recording medium, the words of the sub-blocks of each block are rearranged into the original order, as by use of a second memory, prior to the reconstruction of the analog audio signal.
