  • Publication number: 20010000290
Abstract: During a collision, an air bag causes deformation of a roof head lining as the air bag expands. A roof head lining deformation limiting structure restricts inward deformation of the roof head lining. Thus, the roof head lining is prevented from interfering with an interior equipment, e.g., a sun visor, thereby reducing breakage of the sun visor provided adjacent the roof head lining. The deformation limiting structure can take the form of an assist grip or a card holder. Also, the assist grip or the card holder can be mounted onto a member, e.g., a bracket, that plastically deforms upon being struck by the occupant's head during a collision, thereby absorbing a portion of the impact that would otherwise be transferred to the occupant.

  • Patent number: 6155596
Abstract: A head-protecting air bag apparatus includes an air bag which is adapted to be fixed to a vehicle body so that the air bag extends from a pillar along a roof side rail and one of a front end and a rear end of which is fixed to an inflator. The air bag includes, at an intermediate portion thereof, a plurality of first noninflatable portions which intersect a tension line connecting the front and rear ends when the air bag is expanded, extend in a substantially vertical direction, and are located at a roof side region corresponding to the roof side rail. The air bag also includes a guide portion. The guide portion has a portion corresponding to the pillar and an extended portion extending to a first noninflatable portion of the plurality of first noninflatable portions which is adjacent to the one end.

  • Patent number: 6129377
Abstract: An air bag (11) for a side air bag device capable of reducing the size and weight of the device (M1) while retaining a tension line (L--L) when expanded is mounted on the peripheral edge of a door opening (W) at the inside of a compartment, and is formed into a generally rectangular bag shape for covering the door opening when expanded, while being equipped with a gas inlet (19) for introducing an expanding gas. The air bag is provided with joints (22) jointing an inner side wall (12) and an outer side wall (13) partially so as to form a tension line L--L when expanded. The individual joints (22) are juxtaposed in plurality along the tension line so as to cross the tension line, and are arranged generally at vertically middle portions so as to form one expansion chamber (18) having upper and lower spaces (18a and 18b) for the expanding gas to flow therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6082761
Abstract: A side air bag device has an air bag and a substantially cylindrical inflator for supplying inflation gas to the air bag. The air bag includes a cloth bag and is installed in a vehicle interior in a folded state along the edge of a door opening. The air bag deploys so as to cover the door opening when it inflates. The air bag has a substantially cylindrical tubular gas inflow portion. This gas inflow portion is connected to the inflator so that it covers the inflator. The gas inflow portion is clamped to the outer circumferential surface of the inflator. With a side air bag device according to the invention it is not necessary to use a long pipe that from the inflator and it is possible to increase the freedom of installation of the device and also reduce its weight and cost.

  • Patent number: 6079732
Abstract: A structure for arrangement of an occupant protective apparatus for a vehicle includes: an inflator disposed at a predetermined position of a vehicle body and adapted to eject a gas at a time of a side collision when a high load is applied to a side of the vehicle body; a bag stored in a folded state in such a manner as to extend between a front pillar and a roof side rail and adapted to be inflated in a shape of a curtain below the roof side rail in a vehicle compartment by a gas supplied from the inflator, the bag being disposed in a space formed between a body panel and an interior member disposed on an inner side of the vehicle compartment with a predetermined interval with the body panel; and an energy absorbing member provided in the space and disposed in close proximity to the bag so as to absorb an impact from the inner side of the vehicle compartment.

  • Patent number: 5767377
Abstract: The gene expression in plants is remarkably increased by utilization of human-derived lysozyme and the growth of various pests is effectively inhibited. Thus, there is disclosed an excellent method for enhancing the disease and pest resistance of plants. With the use of this method, the control of disease and pest with agricultural chemicals can be made unnecessary or reduced, and plant breeding can be performed with more saved labor for a shorter period of time, as compared with the conventional plant breeding mainly by crossing.

  • Patent number: 5585163
Abstract: A ceramic-metal composite assembly includes a ceramic member having a stab shaft and a metallic member having a recess. The ceramic member and the metallic member are joined together by press fit, i.e., by fitting the stab shaft into the recess. The stab shaft and the recess after extraction of the stab shaft from the recess has a set relationship of 50 .mu.m.ltoreq.X-Y.ltoreq.150 .mu.m where X is an outer diameter of the stab shaft and Y is an inner diameter of the recess whilst a surface roughness Rz of the recess in the circumferential direction thereof after extraction of the stab shaft from the recess is 1.5 .mu.m or less.
