  • Patent number: 8002156
Abstract: A handicraft clip is provided for forming a pleat in a cloth. The clip includes a relatively wide base plate and a narrower fastening plate connected to the base plate via a connecting hinge portion having a reduced thickness for allowing pivotal movement of the fastening plate relative to the base plate. The base plate is formed with a generally elliptical through-hole, while the fastening plate is provided with a locking protrusion to be fitted into the through-hole of the base plate when the base plate and the fastening plate are superposed on each other. The fastening plate includes a cloth holding portion of a generally constant width. The cloth holding portion is formed with a slit for insertion of a cloth. The slit extends from the distal end of the cloth holding portion toward the locking protrusion.

  • Patent number: 5340435
Abstract: A bonded wafer comprising a filmy bond wafer, a base wafer, and an intermediate silicon dioxide layer, wherein the periphery of the bond wafer is etched; this bonded wafer is made by: subjecting the bond wafer to an oxidation treatment to form an oxide film over it; joining the two wafers in a manner such that the oxide film-covered face of the bond wafer is put on the base wafer to thereby sandwich the oxide film between the wafers; heating the combined wafers to thereby create a bonding strength between the two wafers; grinding the exposed face of the bond; etching the periphery of the bond wafer to remove the portion which is not in contact with the base wafer; and polishing the exposed face of the bond wafer until it becomes a thin film.

  • Patent number: 5296704
Abstract: A scanning tunneling microscope has an STM unit including a probe for scanning the surface of an object. The STM unit has at its outer peripheral surface a cylindrical enclosing member extending towards an object table. When the object is observed, the object table is elevated or the STM unit is lowered, so that the enclosing member is urged upon the table. The table and the STM unit constitute one body. As a result, relative movement between the object and the probe can be prevented, and also influence due to vibration can be prevented. In addition, the enclosing member isolates the object and the probe from the outside space, whereby electric noise, magnetic noise, sound noise and air flow are shielded. Thus, the influence due to external vibration can be reduced, and the stability is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 5127968
Abstract: An additive contains a deactivation agent functioning at soldering temperature. This novel additive is used for fluxes and soldering pastes. In the course of soldering, the deactivation agent in the additive deactivates an activator such as organic acids contained in the flux and the soldering paste in order for removal of an oxide film from a metallic base used for electric circuit. By use of the additive, corrosion of the metallic base with the activator is prevented even though the activator remains on the base. The additive enables one to omit an unnecessary washing step from a preparation of electric circuit.

  • Patent number: 5059793
Abstract: A scanning tunneling microscope includes a piezoelectric driver expanding and contracting according to a voltage applied thereto to adjust the distance between a sample and a probe. A servo circuit outputs a servo voltage to control the expansion and contraction of the piezoelectric driver to keep a tunnel current flowing between the sample and the probe at a constant value. A correction voltage generating circuit generates a given correction voltage to correct a voltage to be applied to the piezoelectric driver. An adding circuit adds the servo voltage and the correction voltage together and supplies an added output to the piezoelectric driver. A control circuit controls the correction voltage according to the servo voltage to set the added output to a given reference voltage.
