  • Publication number: 20080187315
Abstract: The bi-directional optical module, which installs the receiver and the transmitter within one package, is disclosed with an improved optical crosstalk. The optical module provides a lens, a WDM filter and a photodiode (PD) on an axis of the single mode fiber coupled with the module, while, a laser diode (LD) in a position perpendicular to the optical axis. The WDM filter provides a multi-layered optical film on a primary surface and an edge in a side far from the LD and the (PD) makes an obtuse angle to the primary surface so as to prevent light from the LD and reflected at this edge from entering the PD.

  • Patent number: 7387450
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical receptacle capable of reducing the optical coupling loss with the connector plug to be mated with the receptacle, and an optical module installing the receptacle. The receptacle of the invention includes an optical waveguide, a stub, and a body. The stub includes a first bore, into which the waveguide is disposed, and a second bore. The waveguide may be made of same material as that constituting the core of the optical fiber, and may have a substantially same diameter as that of the cladding. Thus, the aperture for coupling the optical fiber may be expanded.

  • Patent number: 7303337
Abstract: In an optical communications module comprising one or more dielectric substrates equipped with an optical transmitter section, an optical receiver section or an optical transceiver section, and a chassis encasing all of them, a metal part is formed on one side of at least one of the dielectric substrates such that the metal part constitutes the whole or a part of the exterior surface of the chassis so that the length of heat conduction from a dielectric substrate with heat-generating components installed thereon can be minimized so as to efficiently release heat through the metal part to outside, curbing a temperature increase within the chassis. Thus, the optical communications module can exhibit excellent performance.

  • Patent number: 7244069
Abstract: A small Faraday rotator is placed in the inner space of a receptacle and a holder. Because the plane of polarization is rotated, even when backreflection light returns to a laser diode, the lasing state does not become unstable. Being placed in the inner space and fixed there, the Faraday rotator can be small and therefore does not increase the part cost notably. The assembly cost does not increase, because it is not required to tightly press-fit a member into a narrow hole.

  • Patent number: 7198415
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical receptacle that reduces the fluctuation of the optical coupling efficiency with the optical plug. The optical receptacle of the invention comprises a stub with a filler therein and a sleeve assembly to receive the optical plug. The stub with a cylindrical shape has an opening in the side where the optical plug is to be in contact thereto and a bore in the other side. The diameter of the opening is comparable to that of the core of the external fiber, while the diameter of the bore is greater than that of the opening. The filler exposes in this opening to couple with the external optical fiber. Thus, the optical coupling efficiency between the filler and the external fiber may enhance and the fluctuation thereof due to the insertion/extraction of the optical plug can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7178989
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical receptacle having a superior insertion/extraction performance of the ferrule, and an optical sub-assembly applying the optical receptacle. The optical receptacle 1 includes a stub, a bush 4, a sleeve, and a sleeve cover. The stub having a lower portion covered by the bush, and an upper portion covered by the sleeve. The sleeve may be a rigid sleeve without any slit along the optical axis in its outer surface. The sleeve cover covers the sleeve and the bush. In the present optical receptacle, the bush is press-fitted into the gap formed between the stub and the sleeve cover. Accordingly, in addition to the application of the rigid sleeve, not only the sub is hard to slide out from the sleeve, but also the insertion/extraction performance of the ferrule to be inserted into the sleeve may be enhanced.
