  • Publication number: 20080052744
Abstract: When a recording of a content such as a program is scheduled, recording failure are significantly reduced, and viewing of the content is guaranteed, while ensuring privacy protection for the user who has made the schedule. A scheduling device instructs recording device(s) interconnected via a network to record content(s) based on scheduling information which contains identification (ID) information of a removable medium on which the content is to be recorded, and time information specifying a recording start and end times of the content.

  • Publication number: 20080019674
Abstract: Entry points are managed so they are easy for users to understand. The data recording apparatus has a receiver unit that receives a stream of encoded digital data; an analyzer that detects change in an attribute of the received stream and that outputs the detection information; a controller that generates management information containing the detection information output by the analyzer and time information indicating detection time of the change as a first entry point; a drive that records the management information and the received stream to a data storage medium; and an input unit that defines a second entry point. This second entry point is set relative to the playback path of the stream and is used to access and read from a particular point in the stream. The controller further generates the management information containing the first entry point and the second entry point separately identified.

  • Patent number: 7274860
Abstract: An optical disk for recording more than one system stream containing audio data and video data. The audio data and video data of the plural system streams are recorded to the optical disk, and are interleaved such that the difference between the input start times of the video data and audio data to the video buffer in the video decoder and the audio buffer in the audio decoder is less than the reproduction time of the number of audio frames that can be stored in the audio buffer plus one audio frame.

  • Publication number: 20070172208
Abstract: An optical disc includes a data area for recording a plurality of video segments and an index area from recording original type chain information and user-defined type chain information. The original type chain information defines an original type chain including first ones of the video segments by describing a reproduction order of the first video segments. The user-defined type chain information defines a user-defined type chain including second ones of the video segments by describing a reproduction order of the second video segments. The first video segments are positioned in the data area in the reproduction order of the first video segments whereas the second video segments are positioned in the data area independently of the reproduction order of the second video segments.

  • Publication number: 20070104458
Abstract: A recording apparatus contains a timer that measures the current time based on a time zone. When writing a VOB onto a DVD, the recording apparatus refers to TM_ZONE recorded on the DVD, and judges whether the time zone which the timer is based on matches the time zone that the TM_ZONE specifies. If the two time zones do not match, the recording apparatus operates as follows. First, the recording apparatus obtains VOB_REC_TM that indicates the recording date/time of the VOB based on TM_ZONE. The recording apparatus then writes the VOB onto the DVD together with VOBI that is information of the VOB and contains (a) the obtained VOB_REC_TM; (b) LOCAL_TZ_TY indicating that the two time zones do not match and (c) LOCAL_TZ specifying the time zone which the timer is based on.

  • Publication number: 20070003220
Abstract: A playback apparatus that plays back a plurality of AV Clips recorded on a BD-ROM. The playback apparatus judges whether there is a playback control that becomes enabled or disabled when a current playback point of the digital stream reaches a predetermined point in a playback timeline. When there is a playback control that becomes enabled or disabled, information indicating the enabled or disabled playback control is transmitted to a touch panel remote control 200 and have the operation device display the enabled or disabled playback control on a chapter of the touch panel remote control 200.

  • Publication number: 20060204092
Abstract: An optical disc stores an AVClip including a video stream and a graphics stream showing a subtitle. A resolution for the AVClip is obtained from Clip information. After this, a ratio is calculated between the obtained resolution and a resolution of a display apparatus that can be connected to a reproducing apparatus. A subtitle content that is selected according to the calculated resolution ratio is reproduced along with the video stream.

  • Publication number: 20060098936
Abstract: A playback apparatus not only plays back an AV stream recorded on a BD-ROM but also downloads an update kit from a WWW server (500) and writes it on a local HD (12). The AV stream stored in the local HD (12) includes an audio stream for an additional language. A control unit (16) reads the AV stream recorded on the BD-ROM and the AV stream recorded in the local HD (12) in units of access units. An audio decoder (6) obtains a necessary audio frame from the access units read from the BD-ROM and the local HD (12) and plays it back. A video decoder (4) obtains video data from the access unit read from the BD-ROM and plays it back.

  • Publication number: 20060077472
Abstract: The navigation generator 12 sets the time length of a VOB to a time length that is determined in advance depending on a scheduled recording time H. Even if a user makes an operation to stop the recording before the time length of a recorded part of the VOB equals the predetermined time length, the VOB of the predetermined time length is recorded onto a DVD±R. Cell information specifying the part of the VOB preceding the point corresponding to the recording stop is generated. Then, PGC information containing the Cell information is recorded onto the DVD±R.
