  • Publication number: 20040213542
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reproducing character-based content at a multitude of possible resolutions without distortion. The character-based content is read from a storage medium at a stored resolution format and is converted to a desired resolution format for display on an attached display device. The reproduction apparatus can compute a ratio between the desired display resolution and the stored resolution to convert the character-based content into the desired resolution format, wherein the computed ratio more particularly includes both a horizontal conversion ratio and a vertical conversion ratio. The line height of the converted character-based content may further be adjusted to ensure a square pixel resolution of the converted content being reproduced in order to ensure that the converted content is not distorted. The reproduction apparatus can detect whether the content includes a resolution value and if a resolution value is not present, a default resolution value can be substituted.

  • Patent number: 6795641
Abstract: An optical disc includes a data area for recording a plurality of video segments and an index area for recording original type chain information and user-defined type chain information. The original type chain information defines an original type chain including first ones of the video segments by describing a reproduction order of the first video segments. The user-defined type chain information defines a user-defined type chain including second ones of the video segments by describing a reproduction order of the second video segments. The first video segments are positioned in the data area in the reproduction order of the first video segments whereas the second video segments are positioned in the data area independently of the reproduction order of the second video segments.

  • Publication number: 20030123855
Abstract: An optical disk for recording more than one system stream containing audio data and video data. The audio data and video data of the plural system streams are recorded to the optical disk, and are interleaved such that the difference between the input start times of the video data and audio data to the video buffer in the video decoder and the audio buffer in the audio decoder is less than the reproduction time of the number of audio frames that can be stored in the audio buffer plus one audio frame.

  • Publication number: 20020146239
Abstract: Entry points are managed so they are easy for users to understand. The data recording apparatus has a receiver unit that receives a stream of encoded digital data; an analyzer that detects change in an attribute of the received stream and that outputs the detection information; a controller that generates management information containing the detection information output by the analyzer and time information indicating detection time of the change as a first entry point; a drive that records the management information and the received stream to a data storage medium; and an input unit that defines a second entry point. This second entry point is set relative to the playback path of the stream and used to access and read from a particular point in the stream. The controller further generates the management information containing the first entry point and the second entry point separately identified.

  • Publication number: 20020106189
Abstract: A recording apparatus contains a timer that measures the current time based on a time zone. When writing a VOB onto a DVD, the recording apparatus refers to TM_ZONE recorded on the DVD, and judges whether the time zone which the timer is based on matches the time zone that the TM_ZONE specifies. If the two time zones do not match, the recording apparatus operates as follows. First, the recording apparatus obtains VOB_REC_TM that indicates the recording date/time of the VOB based on TM_ZONE. The recording apparatus then writes the VOB onto the DVD together with VOBI that is information of the VOB and contains (a) the obtained VOB_REC_TM; (b) LOCAL_TZ_TY indicating that the two time zones do not match and (c) LOCAL_TZ specifying the time zone which the timer is based on.

  • Patent number: 6263150
Abstract: One or more video objects are recorded on an optical disc. When a user indicates a linking edit that links sections of the video objects, video object units (VOBUs) that include picture data at the end of a former section and VOBUs that include picture data at the start of a latter section are read from the optical disc and the audio packs and video packs are separated from these read VOBs. Next, the video packs are re-encoded and some of the audio packs that were originally in the former section are multiplexed into the latter section. The result of the multiplexing is then recorded onto the optical disc.
