  • Patent number: 6136475
Abstract: A lithium secondary battery includes a cathode which can be dischargeably charged with lithium ions, an anode made of lithium metal, a lithium alloy or any other anode material which can be releasably doped with lithium ions, an electrolyte which allows migration of lithium ions between both electrodes, and an endothermic substance which undergoes an endothermic reaction upon a temperature rise of the battery for preventing excessive heat generation. Typically, the endothermic substance is a metal carbonate such as magnesium carbonate, cobalt (II) carbonate, silver carbonate, cadmium carbonate or sodium hydrogencarbonate.

  • Patent number: 6046545
Abstract: A light source apparatus excites an electrodeless lamp bulb with energy of microwaves generated from a magnetron. A microwave transmission line is improved so that microwaves can be transmitted efficiently and the light source apparatus can be miniaturized. A first cylindrical member is disposed coaxially with a direction in which microwaves generated from the magnetron are transmitted, and a second cylindrical member is disposed at the center of the first cylindrical member, thereby forming a coaxial transmission line. A coaxial oscillator is formed from the position at which the microwaves are generated to a position of 1/4 of the wavelength of the microwave. Thus, a special waveguide can be removed.

  • Patent number: 5929945
Abstract: One kind of housing has been formed for rear projection televisions of each screen size in inches and it has not been possible to change the size in inches for such a housing. This has reduced productivity and results in a cost increase. An upper cabinet and a lower cabinet of a rear projection television are formed separately. A screen and a mirror are provided on the upper cabinet. A main component portion for a television comprising video devices, driving and control circuits, an optical unit including a projection lens, and a light source is provided on the lower cabinet. Upper cabinets of different screen sizes in inches are assembled with a common lower cabinet to allow rear projection televisions of various sizes in inches to be easily manufactured.

  • Patent number: 5895109
Abstract: A projector to be simple and capable of being miniaturized. White light is decomposed by a color decomposition/composition device into red light, green light, and blue light, which are incident to a first, second, and third mirror deflection type light modulators and first effective reflected light to third effective reflected light obtained by the first, second, and third mirror deflection type light modulators are composed together, so that color decomposition/composition can be performed by the color decomposition/composition device eliminating the necessity of separately provided color decomposition and composition optical systems, and consequently it is possible to construct the optical system with ease, thereby realizing a projector which is simple and can be miniaturized.

  • Patent number: 5865951
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for papermaking which comprises forming a sheet in the presence of a neutral sizing agent and optionally a filler using as a paper quality improver a cationic polymer which is prepared by copolymerizing an acrylamide compound of the formula:CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R.sub.1)CONH.sub.2wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen atom or methyl group, and an inorganic or organic acid salt of a diallylamine compound of the formula:?CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R.sub.2)CH.sub.2 !.sub.2 N--R.sub.3wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen atom or methyl group, R.sub.3 is hydrogen atom or an alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, in the presence or absence of a vinyl monomer copolymerizable with said acrylamide compound and/or said diallylamine compound salt. When the above paper quality improver is used, the yield per each additive particularly in case of neutral or alkaline papermaking is excellent and hence the sizing properties are sufficiently given, and there can be obtained a paper having sufficiently improved paper strength.

  • Patent number: 5818587
Abstract: An image measuring apparatus for measuring an image of a tooth or gum applies the radiation of a laser beam to permit extremely quick, reliable, safe detection of dental caries and other dental pathological conditions. The low incident power of the laser radiation would not cause damage or pain to the tissue, such as the tooth or gum. The image measuring apparatus is equipped with a light source which emits light having at least a wavelength in a range of 500 nm or more to less than 600 nm; it uses the light emitted from the light source to obtain 2-dimensional images or computed tomographic images of a tooth or gum from the light, which has been transmitted through the tooth or gum, by using an optical heterodyne detection method.

  • Patent number: 5701860
Abstract: A decompressor disposed to start an engine by a recoil starter and at this time compression pressure within a cylinder is adapted to escape therefrom, in which a decompression valve of the decompressor is disposed vertically with respect to a crank shaft or within a crank casing, so that a decompression valve does not laterally project from the cylinder and does not interfere with a cowling, whereby a compact engine is laid out, and also an interlocking mechanism of the decompression valve with the recoil starter becomes simple. Furthermore, a cam at the recoil reel is made variable correspondingly to the kind of engine so that the decompression timing during the starting is made variable so as to obtain the most suitable starting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5636983
Abstract: A laser cutting apparatus is disclosed which includes a laser emitter capable of outputting a laser beam in pulses, a laser beam irradiation member, and a dental-crown polishing and washing member. The dental-crown polishing and washing member has an injection member through which air, water and polishing material are output toward a laser-beam-irradiated surface. A control member is provided which is capable of controlling the operation of laser emitter and dental-crown polishing and washing member. The laser beam irradiation member and injection member are combined with each other by means of an adapter disposed therebetween, thereby enabling both of laser beam irradiation member and injection member to be held and operated by a single hand. By employing this laser cutting apparatus, a high-energy laser beam can be used in the medical and dental fields for removing soft dentin to form a cavity.
