  • Patent number: 5302971
Abstract: A liquid-discharge recording apparatus includes a recording head, an emission signal generator, and a heating signal generator. The recording head includes electrothermal energy converting elements for generating energy used to emit liquid in response to an emission signal from an emission signal generated by the emission signal generator. The heating signal generator generates an electrical signal applied to the electrothermal energy converting elements of sufficient level for heating the liquid, without discharging, during a first heating mode when power is supplied to the apparatus and for generating an electrical signal during a second heating mode, subsequent to the first heating mode, when recording begins after an interruption in power supply. In addition, a controller is provided for controlling a heater such that the heater is deactivated when the discharge opening of the recording head is capped. A liquid-discharge recording method is applied to the liquid-discharge recording apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5146742
Abstract: An ion thruster is operable in an interplanetary space with plasma generated by microwaves in a propellant atmosphere. A vessel defines first, second and third hollow spaces and a window between the first hollow space and the second and third hollow spaces, the second hollow space having an opening. A microwave generating unit generates the microwave in the first hollow space as a standing wave penetrating into the second and thid spacers hollow. A propellant supplying unit supplies the propellant into the second and third hollow spaces, the propellant serving as a main and neutralizing propellant and absorbing the standing wave to produce main plasma comprising main ions and main elecrons. An accelerating unit accelerates only the main ions into an ion beam to inject the ion beam through the opening into the interplanetary space. A neutralizing unit defines a third space which is in communication to the first space and into which the standing wave penetrates.

  • Patent number: 5022931
Abstract: A process for hot working a tubular material having one open end and the other closed end including the steps of: injecting an inert gas into the hole of the material; then fastening a cap to the open end of the material in order to hermetically seal the hole; then heating the material and concurrently subjecting same to forging or the like. Then, the end to which cap has been fastened is separated from the remainder of the material, so that a final product results. The process has an advantage in that it easily, inexpensively prevents a layer transmuted due to heating from occurring in the surface of the hole.

  • Patent number: 4239483
Abstract: A method of controlling steel strip temperature in a process of continuously heating steel strip in heating equipment having a preheating zone and a rapid-heating zone. The preheating zone has a number of gas-injecting preheating units that can be individually put into and taken out of operation. In normal operation, the in-operation length of the preheating zone is prefixed irrespective of strip thickness, and the temperature of the rapid-heating zone is preset depending on the strip thickness so that the strip acquires the desired temperature at the exit end thereof. In such operation, the strip is preheated in the preheating zone of the prefixed in-operation length and rapidly heated in the rapid-heating zone at the preset temperature. In irregular operation, such as treating a following strip the thickness of which has changed, the temperature of the rapid-heating zone is changed from the preset one to a second one optimum for the following strip.
