Patent number: 6309699Abstract: The invention provides a method of producing an oxidation-resistant metallic part which exhibits oxidation resistance even in an oxidation atmosphere. The method includes the step of applying mechanical energy to a surface of a metallic part in the presence of particulates, and forming a protective coating in a surface of the metallic part. When the metallic part thus treated is exposed in a high temperature-oxidation atmosphere, the protective coating is oxidized to restrain the proceeding of the oxidation of the metallic part, that is the internally proceeding formation of TiO2, thus serving a remarkable improvement of the oxidation resistance.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Hiroyuki Kawaura, Hiroshi Kawahara, Takashi Saito, Kazuaki Nishino, Nobuhiko Matsumoto, Tadahiko Furuta

Patent number: 5980659Abstract: Surface-treating metallic parts are produced by applying mechanical energy to the surface of a metallic part and to a substance on or near the surface of the metallic part. The substance is different from the metallic part in composition. The applying step forms a mechanically-alloyed layer from the metallic part and the substance in the surface of the metallic part. The surface-modified layer such as the mechanically-alloyed layer is a non-peeling alloyed layer having a composition or structure different from that of the metallic part. The method is effective in surface-treating light metal materials of which the surfaces are difficult to treat. For example, the method is applicable to soft Mg alloys and Al alloys to improve their surface hardness, and the thus-treated alloys are usable in slide parts which are required to have good wear resistance.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Hiroyuki Kawaura, Hiroshi Kawahara, Kazuaki Nishino, Takashi Saito

Patent number: 5298094Abstract: Disclosed are an aluminum alloy casting having a high strength and a high toughness, and a production process for the same. The aluminum alloy casting comprises silicon (Si) in an amount of 2.5 to 4.4% by weight, copper (Cu) in an amount of 1.5 to 2.5% by weight, magnesium (Mg) in an amount of 0.2 to 0.5% by weight and the balance of aluminum (Al), and a matrix thereof includes a dendrite which has a size of 30 micrometers or less. Since the Si addition amount is suppressed as less as possible and since the size of the dendrite is micro-fined in the aluminum alloy casting, the toughness is improved remarkably. Further, since the Cu and Mg are added in the predetermined addition amounts, the strength is enhanced in the aluminum alloy casting. In addition, a solution treatment which is employed in the production process can further enhance the strength of the aluminum alloy casting.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1991Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Kabushiki Toyota Chuo KenkyushoInventors: Atushi Ota, Minoru Uozumi, Hirokazu Oonishi, Yoji Awano, Yoshihiro Shimizu, Hiroshi Kawahara

Patent number: 5111237Abstract: A light-and pressure-sensitive recording sheet and an original, overlapping each other, are introduced into an image forming apparatus, and are exposed to radiation on a transparent drum by means of a light source in the drum, whereupon a latent image, based on the contents of the original, is formed on the recording sheet. Then, the recording sheet is separated from the original by means of a separator, and is passed between a pair of pressure rolls. When the recording sheet is exposed, microcapsules thereon change their hardness. These microcapsules are ruptured selectively by pressure applied to the sheet. As a result, a chromogenic material, contained in the microcapsules, and a developer material, on the surface of a substrate of the recording sheet, react with each other, so that the sheet surface changes its color. Thus, the latent image is developed to accomplish copying in accordance with the original.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1987Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takemi Yamamoto, Jun Sakai, Hiroshi Kawahara, Shigeyuki Hayashi, Kenji Sakakibara, Michitoshi Akao, Ichiro Sasaki, Ryohei Komiya

Patent number: 4984455Abstract: A system for detecting the speed of an engine for a vehicle calculates the engine speed in accordance with a signal which is outputted from a main rotation sensor in accordance with the operation of the engine. In case the main rotation sensor is subjected to malfunction, the engine speed is calculated using a back-up signal. Namely, an auxiliary rotation sensor detects the rotation of a portion of a power transmission device. When the above portion of the power transmission device is connected to an output shaft of the engine, the signal from the auxiliary rotation sensor is used as the back-up signal. When the two are disconnected from each other, a signal, representing the condition of the operation of an actuator for controlling the amount of supply of fuel to the engine, is used as the back-up signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1990Date of Patent: January 15, 1991Assignee: Diesel Kiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Koyama, Masami Kondo, Hiroshi Kawahara
