  • Patent number: 5980659
Abstract: Surface-treating metallic parts are produced by applying mechanical energy to the surface of a metallic part and to a substance on or near the surface of the metallic part. The substance is different from the metallic part in composition. The applying step forms a mechanically-alloyed layer from the metallic part and the substance in the surface of the metallic part. The surface-modified layer such as the mechanically-alloyed layer is a non-peeling alloyed layer having a composition or structure different from that of the metallic part. The method is effective in surface-treating light metal materials of which the surfaces are difficult to treat. For example, the method is applicable to soft Mg alloys and Al alloys to improve their surface hardness, and the thus-treated alloys are usable in slide parts which are required to have good wear resistance.

  • Patent number: 5298094
Abstract: Disclosed are an aluminum alloy casting having a high strength and a high toughness, and a production process for the same. The aluminum alloy casting comprises silicon (Si) in an amount of 2.5 to 4.4% by weight, copper (Cu) in an amount of 1.5 to 2.5% by weight, magnesium (Mg) in an amount of 0.2 to 0.5% by weight and the balance of aluminum (Al), and a matrix thereof includes a dendrite which has a size of 30 micrometers or less. Since the Si addition amount is suppressed as less as possible and since the size of the dendrite is micro-fined in the aluminum alloy casting, the toughness is improved remarkably. Further, since the Cu and Mg are added in the predetermined addition amounts, the strength is enhanced in the aluminum alloy casting. In addition, a solution treatment which is employed in the production process can further enhance the strength of the aluminum alloy casting.

  • Patent number: 5222431
Abstract: A stamp device employs a heat sensitive stencil paper which includes a thermoplastic film and a porous carrier. The heat sensitive stencil paper is perforated by a thermal head according to characters, symbols, figures, etc. of an image input from an input mechanism. The display can be controlled to display a layout of the image to be perforated on the heat sensitive stencil paper. Therefore, a user can determine whether the layout is acceptable prior to perforating the stencil sheet. Consequently, the user can accurately print at a desired position on a recording medium by confirming the layout on the display prior to printing.

  • Patent number: 5111237
Abstract: A light-and pressure-sensitive recording sheet and an original, overlapping each other, are introduced into an image forming apparatus, and are exposed to radiation on a transparent drum by means of a light source in the drum, whereupon a latent image, based on the contents of the original, is formed on the recording sheet. Then, the recording sheet is separated from the original by means of a separator, and is passed between a pair of pressure rolls. When the recording sheet is exposed, microcapsules thereon change their hardness. These microcapsules are ruptured selectively by pressure applied to the sheet. As a result, a chromogenic material, contained in the microcapsules, and a developer material, on the surface of a substrate of the recording sheet, react with each other, so that the sheet surface changes its color. Thus, the latent image is developed to accomplish copying in accordance with the original.

  • Patent number: 4984455
Abstract: A system for detecting the speed of an engine for a vehicle calculates the engine speed in accordance with a signal which is outputted from a main rotation sensor in accordance with the operation of the engine. In case the main rotation sensor is subjected to malfunction, the engine speed is calculated using a back-up signal. Namely, an auxiliary rotation sensor detects the rotation of a portion of a power transmission device. When the above portion of the power transmission device is connected to an output shaft of the engine, the signal from the auxiliary rotation sensor is used as the back-up signal. When the two are disconnected from each other, a signal, representing the condition of the operation of an actuator for controlling the amount of supply of fuel to the engine, is used as the back-up signal.
