  • Patent number: 4995855
Abstract: A flat belt transmission has two spaced flat pulleys and a flat belt reeved around the flat pulleys. Each pulley can have a plurality of crowns arranged in the width direction of the outer periphery thereof. The flat belt can be a plurality of belts with a narrow width, one for each of the crowns. The flat belt can be a single belt with a part extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt in its inner periphery. The flat belt can be used with the flat pulley of the above construction or a flat pulley having a single crown of its outer periphery. In addition, the plurality of crowns are formed on the outer periphery of the flat pulley so as to be spaced at the same distance from the center of rotation of the pulley, or the outer periphery of the flat pulley can be in the form of a circular arc to change height of the crowns.

  • Patent number: 4993812
Abstract: An optical system featuring a semiconductor laser for oscillating a beam which has, in a far field pattern, two lobes in the direction aligned with a pn junction interface of the semiconductor laser. The optical system is provided with a total reflection mirror for reflecting part of the beam in such a manner that one of the two lobes is separated as a result of the reflection of part of the beam from the other, and with a polarization beam splitter having a junction for synthesizing rays in such a manner that the lobes which have been separated by the total reflection mirror are superimposed. The apparatus is thus capable of forming a single beam spot at which the two lobes are superimposed.

  • Patent number: 4962887
Abstract: In the accumulator fuel injection system according to the present invention, a leak passage is formed in an accumulator in which a fuel supply pressure from a fuel injection pump is temporarily stored, and a control valve adapted to be opened and closed by the energization of a solenoid so as to pen and close this leak passage is provided. In order to secure a predetermined fuel injection quantity, the pressure in the accumulator is reduced suddenly by an operation of the control valve to a level not higher than a needle valve closing pressure to shorten the fuel injection time and increase the pressure in the accumulator to a high level, whereby a fuel injection rate is increased. A pressure chamber having a relief valve therein is further provided in the portion of the leak passage which is on the downstream side of the control valve.

  • Patent number: 4911109
Abstract: The upper parts of the cylinder liners and the cylinder head are formed integral in one piece, and a water jacket is provided around the outer peripheries of the upper parts of the cylinder walls, with no water jacket provided to the cylinder body. This eliminates the use of the core for the water jacket in molding the cylinder body, which in turn reduces the engine weight, brings about a significant cost reduction and makes machining operations easy. Because the piston head is made of a heat insulating material and a water jacket is not provided to the cylinder body, the heat is prevented from flowing down to the cylinder liners. Furthermore, the cylinder liners are made of a ceramic material to improve an anti-galling characteristic during sliding motions at high temperatures. Also, since the water jacket is provided only to the cylinder head, the water jacket can be made simple and small in structure, reducing the cooling water flow resistance.

  • Patent number: 4848291
Abstract: The heat-insulating piston structure according to the present invention is formed by fixing a piston head, which consists of a material the coefficient of thermal expansion of which is substantially equal to that of a ceramic material, to a piston skirt, and setting a thin, flat plate portion of a ceramic material on the whole of the flat surface of the piston head which is on the side of a combustion chamber via a heat-insulating member. Accordingly, the piston can be formed so that it has excellent heat-insulating characteristics and high thermal resistance, deformation resistance and corrosion resistance. Especially, the thin plate portion of a ceramic material, which is exposed to a combustion gas, can be formed to the smallest possible thickness to reduce the thermal capacity thereof greatly. Therefore, the temperature of the wall of the combustion chamber varies easily with that of the combustion gas (in other words, the amplitude of the temperature of this wall becomes large).

  • Patent number: 4845399
Abstract: A laminated piezoelectric transducer, comprising a laminate of a plurality of piezoelectric plates with paste electrodes inserted therebetween and bonding the plates together. Rows of metal extrusions are made by electroless plating onto the paste electrodes on the peripheral outer surface of the laminate. Each row of the metal extrusions is formed onto and electrically connected to alternate paste electrodes, so that by electrically connecting each row of the metal extrusions, the laminate of the piezoelectric plates is electrically connected in parallel. This laminated piezoelectric transducer allows the formation of the paste electrodes on the entire or at least substantially the entire main surfaces of the piezoelectric plates, and eliminates the need for the usual metal plate electrodes inserted between the piezoelectric plates.

  • Patent number: 4838235
Abstract: The heat-insulating engine structure according to the invention comprises fitting a ceramic head liner for which a cylinder liner top and a head lower surface portion are unified structurally in a cylinder head, coating an outer surface of the cylinder liner top of the head liner with a heat insulating laminate with a metallic sheet and a heat insulating material with potassium titanate as a principal component wound spirally by turns with a compressive force exerted thereon, thus enhancing strength or pressure resistance, forming a wall of the head liner as thin as possible to minimize a thermal capacity of the head liner, thereby enhancing suction efficiency and cycle efficiency. Further, heat insulation efficiency is enhanced all the more by disposing the heat insulating laminate having air layers between the head liner and the cylinder head.
