  • Patent number: 7032085
Abstract: A storage system, which can execute sort processing of data without affecting online service, is disclosed. A storage control device 12 receives a sort instruction specifying a record group for sorting and a sort key from a host device 1, reads the record group from an external storage device 11 into cache memory 123, and uses the cache memory 123 and a work area secured in the external storage device 11 to execute sort processing of the above record group, and again stores the sorted record group in a prescribed output area within the external storage device 11. When a plurality of sort instructions are received, work areas are allocated automatically without overlapping work areas. When record updates occur during online service, a snapshot of the updated records is taken, and sorting of the snapshot is performed.

  • Publication number: 20050273647
Abstract: A personal computer inputs path information for forming a path group and a storage controller manages the path group. For example, a physical path PS#1, a path PS#2 and a path PS#3 are defined as a path group PG#1 and instructed to the storage controller. This indication is stored in a table. Host A recognizes this path group information, too. Host A designates “Persistent Reserve OUT” on the path PS#1. The storage controller recognizes that the path group PG#1 inclusive of this path PS#1 is reserved as a whole. When Host B attempts release this reserve state illegally through a path PS#1 of Host A, Host B issues “Persistent Reserve OUT” command by KEY#1. Because the path PS#1 does not belong to the path group managed by the storage controller, however, the reserve release request is rejected.

  • Publication number: 20050216658
Abstract: A storage apparatus is provided in which the data amount of transfer data to a secondary disk controller from a primary disk controller at the event of remote copying can be reduced, and data integrity also can be assured. According to the storage apparatus, in the primary disk controller, overwriting update data in same records during a specified time between a preset first base point and a preset second base point on the update data that are stored in the second area of the cache memory and that are to be transferred to the secondary disk controller; and in the secondary disk controller, handling the update data between the first base point and the second base point as real data having consistency.

  • Publication number: 20050050274
Abstract: For using a plurality of files contained in one logical device with a plurality of processing systems, sharing of a data storage unit among the plurality of processing systems is realized without need for a host processing system to check use states of the files in a server storage unit. Information concerning extent (extent range) of an input/output processing request issued by a host processor is stored in a control memory incorporated in a control unit for allowing the control unit to make decision as to overlap of the extents of the input/output processings to thereby effectuate exclusive control on an extent-by-extent basis.

  • Patent number: 6854023
Abstract: There is provided a data processing system which, from a point of view of increasing process efficiency of the entire data processing system to exhibit a maximum effect, may assign an alias device to a logic device. The data processing system of this invention comprises a host processing device (10) and a storage control device (20) connected thereto via a communication means (50), where the storage control device (20) has a deciding means for deciding, at a time of processing an I/O request of a certain base device, whether there is a need to newly assign an alias device to the base device according to a use situation of a physical device (203). When assignment is decided as necessary, the host processing device (10) is notified of such via the communication means, and the host processing device (10) newly assigns an alias device to the base device when there is the notification from the storage control device (20).

  • Patent number: 6805105
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus is provided which works to supply fuel such as a dimethly ether used as an alternative to a typical fuel for an internal combustion engine. The fuel supply apparatus includes a high-pressure pump working to feed the to injectors from a fuel tank through a common rail, a fuel return line, and a compressor working to add to a back pressure higher than a vapor pressure of the fuel to the return line. The addition of the back pressure higher than the vapor pressure of the fuel facilitates liquidizing of the fuel. This results in a decrease in leakage of the fuel, which improves the efficiency of burning of the fuel and ensures the startability and drivability of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6719224
Abstract: A fuel supply system has a pump, a common rail, and injectors. Pressurized fuel is stored in the common rail. The common rail distributes the fuel to the injectors. A liquid fuel and a liquefied gas fuel such as dimethyl ether and a liquefied petroleum gas may be used as a fuel. In each injector, a valve element is actuated directly by an electromagnetic actuator. The injector has a low pressure chamber for decreasing a biasing force which acts on the valve element in a valve closing direction. The valve element can be divided for replacement. The injector has means for suppressing the bounce of the valve element. A hydraulic unit which utilizes the fuel suppresses the bounce of the valve element. The fuel supply system is connected to a refrigerating cycle. The fuel leaking from the fuel supply system is cooled and again liquefied by the refrigerating cycle.

  • Publication number: 20040039869
Abstract: A data look-ahead control is provided to realize a high cache hit rate and improves responsiveness in an information processing system. In the data look-ahead control, when it is determined that the current input/output request is an access to a specific database that was the subject of a recent input/output request and whose I/O count exceeds a predetermined value, and it is also determined that a cache memory can be occupied to some extent and that there would be no impact on other input/output requests, data including one or more blocks (logical tracks) larger than a block that is the subject of the current I/O request are loaded to the cache memory.
