  • Publication number: 20030110780
Abstract: A fuel supply system has a pump, a common rail, and injectors. Pressurized fuel is stored in the common rail. The common rail distributes the fuel to the injectors. A liquid fuel and a liquefied gas fuel such as dimethyl ether and a liquefied petroleum gas may be used as a fuel. In each injector, a valve element is actuated directly by an electromagnetic actuator. The injector has a low pressure chamber for decreasing a biasing force which acts on the valve element in a valve closing direction. The valve element can be divided for replacement. The injector has means for suppressing the bounce of the valve element. A hydraulic unit which utilizes the fuel suppresses the bounce of the valve element. The fuel supply system is connected to a refrigerating cycle. The fuel leaking from the fuel supply system is cooled and again liquefied by the refrigerating cycle.

  • Patent number: 6567865
Abstract: For using a plurality of files contained in one logical device with a plurality of processing systems, sharing of a data storage unit among the plurality of processing systems is realized without need for a host processing system to check use states of the files in a server storage unit. Information concerning extent (extent range) of an input/output processing request issued by a host processor is stored in a control memory incorporated in a control unit for allowing the control unit to make decision as to overlap of the extents of the input/output processings to thereby effectuate exclusive control on an extent-by-extent basis.

  • Publication number: 20030061407
Abstract: There is provided a data processing system which, from a point of view of increasing process efficiency of the entire data processing system to exhibit a maximum effect, may assign an alias device to a logic device. The data processing system of this invention comprises a host processing device (10) and a storage control device (20) connected thereto via a communication means (50) , where the storage control device (20) has a deciding means for deciding, at a time of processing an I/O request of a certain base device, whether there is a need to newly assign an alias device to the base device according to a use situation of a physical device (203). When assignment is decided as necessary, the host processing device (10) is notified of such via the communication means, and the host processing device (10) newly assigns an alias device to the base device when there is the notification from the storage control device (20).

  • Publication number: 20020189589
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus is provided which works to supply fuel such as a dimethly ether used as an alternative to a typical fuel for an internal combustion engine. The fuel supply apparatus includes a high-pressure pump working to feed the to injectors from a fuel tank through a common rail, a fuel return line, and a compressor working to add to a back pressure higher than a vapor pressure of the fuel to the return line. The addition of the back pressure higher than the vapor pressure of the fuel facilitates liquidizing of the fuel. This results in a decrease in leakage of the fuel, which improves the efficiency of burning of the fuel and ensures the startability and drivability of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6237570
Abstract: Pressurized fuel of a common rail is introduced into a control chamber of a fuel injector. An electromagnetic valve opens or closes a fuel discharge passage of the control chamber to adjust a hydraulic pressure of the control chamber. Through a switching leak passage, bubble-containing fuel directly returns from a valve opening of the electromagnetic valve to a low-pressure return passage without passing through an armature chamber. Through a stationary leak passage, the fuel leaking from every slide portion returns to the return passage via the armature chamber. A downstream portion of the stationary leak passage opens to the upper portion of the armature chamber. A damper element is provided downstream of the electromagnetic valve in the return passage for canceling an increased fuel pressure.

  • Patent number: 5835939
Abstract: In control method and apparatus for data transfer in an external storage subsystem, a disk unit and a control unit interposed between a host channel and a processing unit are provided and data in a variable record length supplied from the host is converted to data in a fixed record length to write it in the disk unit. Final format writing end position information for a logical track and an erase flag indicating whether the erasing is required or not are stored at a portion of a logical track control table which controls a cache memory, for each logical track. In the format writing on the cache memory, the final format writing end position information and the erase flag are updated, and when the data is written into the disk unit from the cache memory by logical track unit, the erase flag is referred and the erasing is performed if it is required.

  • Patent number: 5734813
Abstract: In this invention a logical record represents a record accessed by a HOST computer. A physical record represents a record defined on disk units. Physical records consist of data records and parity records. A data record has a value of a logical record. m data records and n parity records form parity records. Parity records are utilized to recover the contents of the data records which belong to the same parity group. A reduction in the generation times of updated values of parity records is realized. A data value of parity records has an allocated status to a logical record and an unallocated status. When a parity-generation scheduling unit decides generation of updated values of a parity group, it recognizes data records which are unallocated to logical records in the parity groups. Then it searches the logical records which are allocated to data records included in the other parity group. Finally it reallocates the recognized data records to the searched logical records.

  • Patent number: 5640600
Abstract: A storage controller comprising a storage device adapter, a channel adapter, a cache memory, a control memory, and a plurality of buses connecting therebetween. The channel adapter communicates with a processor and processes input/output requests issued by the processor. The storage device adapter controls a storage device and data transfer between the storage device and the cache memory. The channel adapter and the storage device adapter exchanges control information via the control memory. The buses are used to transfer the data and the control information between the cache memory and the control memory, and the channel adapter and the storage device adapter. The controller also comprises bus load estimating means and bus mode selecting means. The bus load estimating means estimates bus load characteristics as an index based on the amount of data transfer during sequential access to the storage device. The bus mode selecting means determines a bus mode of bus utilization based on the index.

  • Patent number: 5457791
Abstract: A storage system comprises a disc drive unit including a plurality of logical drive groups each having a plurality of physical drives, and a disc drive control unit for controlling the information transfer between the disc drive unit and the host system. The logical data arriving from the host system is divided into a plurality of continuous data blocks, from which redundant data is prepared for data restoration. The redundant data is added to the continuous data blocks to provide updated logical data. The storage system is controlled in such a way as to write the updated logical data into a plurality of physical drives. In the case where a fault develops in any of the data blocks of the physical drives to be accessed, redundant data is generated from the updated logical data.

  • Patent number: 5315447
Abstract: A magnetic disc storage system, in which operation for erasing information otherwise left to remain in succession to data records on a rotatable storage medium during a remaining period of one rotation of the medium is omitted. In response to a command commanding access to the stored data, a table containing the lengths of the stored data is referred to. When it is detected that a record having a storage location commanded to be accessed exceeds the associated stored length of the recorded data, a command error is messaged to a controller of the rotatable storage medium in place of executing the access.
