  • Patent number: 5830103
Abstract: A sufficient quantity of lubricating oil can be sent into a radial needle bearing and a thrust ball bearing supporting a power roller. The lubricating oil is discharged into a gap space through a send-in side oil supply path formed in a trunnion, and is sent into a receiving side oil supply path in a pivotal support shaft portion. A thrust sliding bearing having a through-hole is provided in the gap space. The downstream end opening of the send-in side oil supply path and the upstream end opening of the receiving side oil supply path are located inside the through-hole.

  • Patent number: 5807203
Abstract: In order to improve the transmission efficiency of a toroidal type continuously variable transmission by reducing the dynamic torque loss of an antifriction bearing, a first output gear is constituted by a pair of helical gears of which the directions of inclinations are opposite to each other, and a second output gear is constituted by a double helical gear. By this construction, a thrust force created in the meshing portion between the first and second output gears is offset and the dynamic torque loss of the antifriction bearing is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5651750
Abstract: A toroidal type continuously variable transmission is arranged to support one disc on the input side, facing a pressure device, on the outer circumference of an input shaft through a needle bearing. The other disc on the input side is supported on the input shaft by means of a spline coupling and a flange. A cam board which constitutes a pressure device is supported on the outer circumference of the input shaft through a ball spline. Disc springs are installed between one face of the cam board and a loading nut. In this way, the number of difficult processing steps and the degree of required precision can be reduced at the same time, hence making it possible to implement the reduction of the manufacturing costs.

  • Patent number: 5584778
Abstract: The total of thrust loads acting on first, second, and third angular ball bearings upon operation of a transmission is reduced. In order to reduce torque losses of the angular ball bearings, a toroidal type continuously variable transmission is arranged so that a thrust load based on the counterforce upon operation of a compression device is received by the third angular ball bearing, and the difference between a thrust load acting on an input-side disk and a thrust load acting on an output-side disk acts on an output shaft. A thrust load corresponding the difference is received by one of the first and second angular ball bearings.

  • Patent number: 5575733
Abstract: In order to prevent portions of a thrust rolling bearing from being worn significantly and being burned, grooves are formed on both inner and outer surfaces of a retainer so as to traverse pockets. Lubricating oil is supplied from oiling holes formed in an outer race toward the retainer. The lubricating oil supplied from the oiling holes flows through the grooves to the rolling bearing uniformly.

  • Patent number: 5556348
Abstract: A toroidal-type continuously variable transmission provides an input side disk disposed on an input shaft, an output side disk disposed on an output shaft, and a power roller for transmitting motive power of the input shaft to the output shaft while engaging both the input side disk and the output side disk, in which the input side disk, the output side disk, and the power roller made of a material are subjected to either a carburizing and grinding process or to a carbonitriding and grinding process so that effective carburized depths of the input side disk, the output side disk, and the power roller are limited to a range between 2.0 mm and 4.0 mm. The toroidal-type continuously variable transmission is capable of improving not only the rolling contact lives of the traction surfaces of the input and output side disks as well as the traction surfaces of the power rollers, but also the fatigue fracture lives of the input and output side disks and power rollers.

  • Patent number: 5007298
Abstract: An input shaft of a toroidal-type infinitely variable transmission is supported at opposite ends by respective bearings which are secured to a housing, and input and output disks and power rollers are mounted at an intermediate portion of the input shaft. The input shaft has a flange at one end which is connected to an engine, and a pressure adjusting Belleville washer is interposed between the inner end face of the flange and the outer end face of the bearing to bias the input shaft in the direction of the engine so that a predetermined pressing force is applied to the input and output disks and the power rollers during a period in which a small input torque is transmitted to the input shaft. As the input torque increases, the input shaft is moved axially together with a loading cam against the spring force of the Belleville washer, and the inner end face of the flange and the outer end face of the bearing directly abut each other so that a required reaction force is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4744032
Abstract: A tilting angle detector detects a tilting angle of the power rollers which perform the transmission operation of a toroidal type infinitely variable transmission. Based on the detecting signal and a command value signal from command value selecting means for selecting a command value of the transmission ratio, control means controls the power rollers to tilt. In this control, correction means corrects at least one of the detecting signal of the tilting angle detector and the command value signal of the command value selecting means so that a relationship of the transmission ratio with respect to the tilting angle becomes linear, and thus the gain at each transmission ratio is made equal.
