  • Patent number: 5815331
Abstract: A digital signal recording method and apparatus for recording a digital signal on a recording medium by dividing the digital signal at intervals of a certain byte number, adding to each of the divided signals a synchronizing signal, a control signal including block address information, and an error detection and correction code to form signal blocks, and precoding each of the signal blocks in order to detect a partial response. Before the precode processing, the digital signal and the error detection and correction code are scrambled on the basis of the control signal, and the control signal is inverted.

  • Patent number: 5719943
Abstract: A digital information signal transmitting/receiving method and system having a transmitter for transmitting an encrypted digital information signal and a plurality of receivers for receiving the encrypted digital information signal from the transmitter. The transmitter simultaneously distributes a plurality of identification codes associated with the receivers at a time ahead of the digital information signal. The receivers detect whether a particular identification code assigned to the receiver was included within a received plurality of identification codes. When the particular identification code has been detected as having been received the received encrypted digital information signal is decrypted into the original digital information. In order to request that a particular identification code be included so as to allow access to a program, either one of the receivers or the recorders each generate an information request signal.

  • Patent number: 5699370
Abstract: An information recording and reproduction apparatus for recording and reproducing the information supplied through the transmission line is capable of protecting the copyright by limiting the reproduction of the recorded information. A main information signal supplied through the transmission line and a deadline signal attached to the main information signal and representing the reproduction deadline of the main information signal are recorded and reproduced by a recording device and a reproduction device respectively. A temporal information signal representing the date and time is acquired. The deadline signal reproduced is compared with the temporal information signal acquired. The reproduction output of the main information signal is cut off in accordance with the comparison signal produced by the comparison. In the case where the temporal information has passed the deadline, the reproduction output of the main information signal is cut off.

  • Patent number: 5459585
Abstract: An apparatus for storing high definition image signals capable of processing high definition image signals and low definition image signals using the same apparatus. A storage medium is provided with an interface of low definition image signals. High definition image signals are compressed, transformed into a format according to the specifications of the interface of low definition image signals and are then stored in the storage medium. The compressed image signals taken out from the storage medium are subjected to the format reverse transform for expansion to restore the original high definition image signals. The format-transformed compressed high definition image signals and the compressed high definition image signals taken out from the storage medium are transmitted over a transmission medium via low definition image interface and are, as required, stored in the storage medium or put to other processings, and are then expanded to restore the original high definition image signals.

  • Patent number: 4916553
Abstract: In a rotary magnetic head helical scan type video tape recorder using a segment recording system, a video signal of one vertical scanning period is divided into n video signal blocks, where n is an integer equal to or larger than 2, and a redundant period having a selected length is inserted into the video signal blocks in a recording mode. Each of the video signal blocks has a number of horizontal scanning lines equal or smaller than N/n, where N is the number of the horizontal scanning lines in a field of the video signal. In a reproducing mode, a time axis error of reproduced series of the video signal blocks is corrected at least during the redunant periods. Then, the corrected blocks are converted into the original video signal.

  • Patent number: 4873582
Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic recording-playback apparatus suitable for recording and reproducing a signal including a broad-band composite video signal and a method therefor. The broad-band signal is time-sliced into signals in two channels, and each divided signal is expanded on the time axis so that it is converted into a lower-band signal before being recorded on a magnetic tape. In the time axis expansion process, the vertical blanking signal and/or horizontal blanking signal is not expanded, whereby the divided video signals have a still lower frequency band.

  • Patent number: 4746996
Abstract: A skew error correction device for a video signal in a television receiver or the like is disclosed. An oscillator produces an oscillation output signal of a constant frequency which is phase-synchronized with horizontal synchronization information included in an input video signal, and the output signal is used as a write clock. In a vertical blanking period, the oscillation output signal or a frequency-divided signal thereof is phase-compared with an output of a reference signal generator of a predetermined frequency or a frequency-divided signal thereof, and a phase error signal is negatively fed back to voltage control means which voltage-controls the oscillation frequency of the oscillator. Thus, the oscillation frequency is stabilized without using an AFC circuit and a skew error in the input video signal is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4688081
Abstract: In order to correct a time base error of a video signal reproduced from a video signal recording/reproducing apparatus such as a VTR or the like, when the reproduced video signal is sequentially written into or read out from a memory, a signal which is obtained by frequency multiplying an output of an oscillator for generating a signal of a constant frequency whose phase is momentarily synchronized by a burst signal extracted from the reproduced video signal is used as a write clock. The signal based on the output of the oscillator and the signal based on the output of a reference signal generator for generating a read clock for the memory are phase compared for the vertical blanking period of the reproduced video signal, and a phase difference signal is generated. The oscillating frequency of the oscillator is controlled in a negative feedback manner using this phase difference signal, thereby assuring the stable oscillating frequency which does not cause any frequency deviation.
