  • Patent number: 6435152
Abstract: An induction device for an internal combustion engine with an intake pipe having dimensions which can be varied within predetermined limits. The intake pipe is made up of at least one resonance pipe (R) coupled via a resonance volume (43) with at least one ram pipe (S) leading to an inlet of a respective cylinder of the engine. A supercharging of the resonance pipe and/or the ram pipe can be realized in the entire intake pipe, and the dimensions of resonance pipes (R) and the ram pipes (S) can be continuously varied within predetermined limits.

  • Publication number: 20020023620
Abstract: An air intake device for an internal combustion engine with at least two intake pipes, wherein each intake pipe can be closed by at least one throttle valve and wherein the throttle valves are connected to one another. The throttle valves are soft in at least one area in such a way that unevenness in the distribution of the supplied air is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6334436
Abstract: A secondary air system 10 is proposed for an internal combustion engine, which has a turbine 11 driven by a pressure gradient in the intake air and a compressor 14 driven by the turbine 11. The turbine is connected by a turbine inlet line 12 and a turbine outlet line 13 to an air intake duct 20. The compressor 14 has a compressor inlet line 15 and a compressor outlet line 16. The cold produced by the turbine 11 is used by a turbine heat exchanger 17 and transport lines 27 for the cooling of, e.g., oil. The heat produced by the compressor 14 is used by a compressor heat exchanger 18 and the transport lines 27 connected thereto, e.g., for heating air.

  • Patent number: 6247438
Abstract: The invention relates to an intake pipe for the intake air of an internal combustion engine. The intake pipe comprises a shift drum which provides continuous adjustment of the intake pipe length. The intake pipe comprises a housing constructed of individual disks which are joined in a sealing manner via ring grooves. The shift drum is preferably made of regulator disks so that it can be assembled without difficulty by alternately sliding a housing disk and a regulator disk on to the drive shaft. The intake channels are sealed by means of sealing lips which are joined to the regulator disks, for example by injection, and are axially supported on annular ribs forming part of the housing disks. This makes it possible to compensate for the tolerances of all of the components. Apart form being easier to assemble, an intake pipe constructed in the above manner also has a lower weight since no inserts are required to configure and seal the individual intake channels.

  • Patent number: 6216657
Abstract: A process and device are disclosed for controlling air consumption in the intake tract of an internal combustion engine. Air intake in the intake tract (2) can be subdivided via at least two ram tubes (3, 4). The intake path can be continuously controlled in one of the ram tubes (4) between a totally open state and a closed state and prolong the other ram tube (3). The ram tube (4) in which the intake path can be continuously controlled between a totally open state and a closed state is preferably the shortest ram tube (4).

  • Patent number: 6094909
Abstract: A secondary air system for an internal combustion engine (32), including at least one line (14) through which air is blown into the exhaust pipe of the engine, a pump (26) and a drive (27) for the pump (26). In addition an air-feed line (13) is provided through which the secondary air is supplied to the pump (26). The power necessary to drive the pump is provided by the engine (32).
