Publication number: 20190120004Abstract: Plain casing is run for a completion and openings in a desired pattern are added in the borehole. Gamma ray tools or other orientation tools are used to determine depth and orientation of a tool that makes the openings. The openings are created in the borehole in the location and pattern that is desired. The openings can be closed at a later time with a powered tool that inserts an object into the opening and fixates it to the casing to prevent production of undesired fluids. Even after production has started additional openings can be made in the same or connected lateral boreholes to enhance continued production.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2017Publication date: April 25, 2019Applicant: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventor: Homero C. Castillo

Patent number: 10053969Abstract: A one trip system for perforating and fracking multiple intervals uses a releasable barrier. The barrier can be an inflatable. A pressure booster system is associated with the BHA so that the existing hydrostatic pressure is boosted when the gun or portions thereof are fired. After firing in one interval, the BHA is raised and the barrier is redeployed and the pattern repeats. Instruments allow sensing the conditions in the interval for optimal placement of the gun therein and for monitoring flow, pressure and formation conditions during the fracturing. Circulation between gun firings cleans up the hole. If run in on wireline a water saving tool can be associated with the BHA to rapidly position it where desired. A multitude of perforation charges mounted in the BHA can be selectively fired by selected corresponding detonator based on a predetermined sequence or surface telemetry command.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2016Date of Patent: August 21, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventors: Homero C. Castillo, Otto N. Fanini

Patent number: 9976371Abstract: A method of downhole operations with a wireline deployed tool that has become stuck downhole. The wireline is selectively detached from the stuck tool, and a tubular is attached to a coupling provided with the tool. The tool is unstuck by applying upward and downward forces to the tool with the tubular. The coupling further provides communication between a line in the tubular and the downhole tool, thereby providing communication between the tool and surface. Thus, after unsticking the tool, wellbore operations can continue with the tool attached onto the tubular.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2014Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE Company, LLCInventors: Homero C. Castillo, James O. Rogers, Angus J. Simpson, Chris J. Morgan

Publication number: 20170285208Abstract: A downhole tool includes a housing, a permanent magnet in the housing, and magnetic field source that selectively generates a magnetic field which counters a magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet. The downhole tool is deployed in a wellbore that intersects a subterranean formation, and is used for imaging the formation. The magnetic field source can be a coil through which an electrical current is selectively conducted. The electrical current can be continuously applied or pulsed through the coil.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventors: Homero C. Castillo, Otto N. Fanini

Publication number: 20160047209Abstract: A pumpdown sub for use with a downhole tool during pumpdown operations includes a valve with a valve member that selectively opens and closes. When the valve is open, fluid can flow axially past the pumpdown sub, thus the downhole tool can be moved up and down in the wellbore without flow resistance from the pumpdown sub. When the valve is closed, the valve member blocks substantially the entire cross sectional area of the wellbore, so that when pumpdown fluid is added to the wellbore, the fluid does not flow around the valve, but instead all of the pumped fluid exerts a pumpdown force onto the valve and tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2014Publication date: February 18, 2016Inventors: Homero C. Castillo, Otto N. Fanini
