The startup of a plurality of document processing services on an associated document processing device is controlled via a service startup manager. Each of the document processing services is then interfaced with a control system via a device level interface. Data is communicated between the device level interface and an external data processing device via an agent layer interface. The agent layer interface is registered with the service startup manager. A startup of the document processing device is then commenced in accordance with the control of the service startup manager. A document processing control display is generated on a user interface associated with the document processing device, with the display including indicia corresponding to one of the functions of the external data processing device according to the agent layer interface.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for automated distribution and implementation of security fixes. A text message is first received into data storage of a document processing device via a data network. Strings in the received text message are then parsed so as to isolate control data, which includes advisory data corresponding to the applicability of a security risk associated with a class of devices and remedy data corresponding to a solution to a vulnerability problem associated with vulnerability data. The advisory data is then tested for applicability to the device, and the remedy data is analyzed according to the advisory test. An alteration of the document processing device is then completed in accordance with the output of analysis. The acceptability of the alteration of the device is then verified, and an applied alteration of the device is undone based upon the verification output.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for script language-based document processing. First, an electronic document inclusive of scripted commands is received. Scripted commands are then parsed from the received electronic document. At least one electronic document is then retrieved from an associated storage in accordance with the parsing of the scripted commands from the received electronic document. Thereafter, at least one document processing operation is performed on each retrieved electronic document in accordance with the scripted command parsed from the received electronic document.

A document processing device then retrieves content data from an associated data storage. The content data suitably corresponds to acceptable content associated with the document processing device. Processing of the portion of the received electronic document is then controlled in accordance with the results of the comparison.

Resource utilization associated with the operation of the document processing device is then sensed. In accordance with an output of the sensed resource utilization, an update process is throttled associated with the document processing device and the updated software.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for generating a pluggable network stack interface. A plurality of common network communication features associated with each of a plurality of network stacks are first mapped via a network interface stack. A network stack associated with an installed network communication component is then sensed. Features associated with a sensed network communication component are then mapped in accordance with the mapping of the plurality of common network communication features. Network services are then commenced in accordance with the output of the mapping of features associated with a sensed network communication component. Thereafter, configuration file data corresponding to commenced network services is communicated to an associated data storage.

A controller functionally integrated with a document processing device is first connected with remote workstations via a computer network. An electronic document is received from one of the workstations having an associated document identifier. Identification data is then received from an associated user via a user interface associated with the controller. A received electronic document is associated with the received identification data according to the associated identifier. A workstation is then identified based upon such association. Active document data is then received representing active electronic documents on each of the workstations. Indicia is generated on a display associated with the user interface corresponding to the received active document data. Selection data is received corresponding to a selected electronic document.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for scheduled distribution of updated documents. Document data corresponding to at least one electronic document associated with a meeting is first stored in an associated data storage. Next, identification data representing each invitee to the meeting is stored in the storage. Event data corresponding to the scheduled timing of the meeting event is then stored in the associated data storage. Document processing operation data, corresponding to one or more document processing operations to be performed on the received document data, is also stored in the associated data storage. The stored document data is then retrieved from the data storage at an appointed time in accordance with the stored event data. At least one of the associated document processing operations is then commenced on the retrieved document data based upon the stored document processing operation data.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for simultaneously commencing output of disparately encoded electronic documents. Selection data representative of multiple electronic documents encoded in multiple disparate formats is first received. For example, the electronic documents are capable of being encoded in MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD, MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL, ADOBE ACROBAT formats, and the like. Each of the disparate formats is associated with a corresponding software module and then retrieved in accordance with received selection data. Next, the electronic documents are communicated to corresponding software modules, and the document processing device commences a selected document processing operation on each of the electronic documents by a corresponding software module. Each application-specific module is adapted for processing a document processing request for one or more types of documents that are associated with one specific application.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for integration of web-based storage to a local operating system graphical user interface. A workstation detects a remote storage location via a network interface and stores login data to access the remote storage location. Identification data is then communicated to the storage. A display window of the user interface of the workstation is generated to reflect the remote storage. File instructions, which interact with the operating system of the workstation, are received via the user interface and communicated to the remote storage. Status data is received from the remote data storage via the computer network, and status display data is generated on the user interface. Communication is selectively commenced of a data file between the workstation and the remote data storage according to data transfer instructions. The remote data storage location is mapped, appearing as local storage on the workstation.

Abstract: A system and method for the secure transmission of a facsimile, which verifies that a selected user transmitted the document and only allows for the designated recipient or recipients to receive the facsimile is provided. A sending user scans a document, which is then encrypted and digitally signed using the sender's private key, which is retrieved from a central authority or server. The digitally signed document is then encrypted using the recipient's public key. The encrypted digitally signed document is then faxed to the recipient. The device receiving the facsimile transmission then notifies the designated recipient of the receipt of the encrypted fax job. The recipient then logs onto the receiving device, which retrieves the sender's public key and the recipient's private key from the server. The retrieved keys are then used to decrypt the document and verify the identities of both the sender and the user.

Abstract: A system and method for file-based configuration of a document output device is provided. Following the receipt of electronic document data and instruction data from an associated workstation, DEVMODE data is retrieved from an XML data file. The instruction data is then compared with the DEVMODE data to determine whether the DEVMODE data requires changes so that the document output device incorporates the instruction data into the output of the electronic document. When the DEVMODE data requires updating, data stored in the data file is used to generate a new DEVMODE structure associated with the document output device. This new data is then used to output the electronic document incorporating the instructions contained within the instruction data.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for the automated configuration for document input devices. A document processing device first receives a document, which is scanned to detect an indicia on one of the sheets of the document. The indicia, in the form of a barcode or watermark, are then decoded to generate job data representing a desired device configuration for processing the received document. The job data is then used to program a job processor and the document processing device outputs the document in accordance with the job data.

The top layer is also responsible for communicating with other modules such as the Job Manager to start the job at the right trigger and obtain the type of rasterization required, and the Print Data Manager to forward the job to the physical image output device. The second layer includes a series of pluggable Raster Image Processors which perform the actual rasterizing of the images. Different Raster Image Processors can be plugged into the controller by registering themselves to the RIP manager layer. When registering, the Raster Image Processor denotes what types of images it can rasterize, such as FAX, PDL, or other formats.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for secure document transmission. A sender selects a portion of an original document containing confidential information using a highlighter, bracketing, underlining, or other identifying marks. The original document is then scanned to generate an electronic version, which is subject to optical character recognition to locate the portions of the document containing confidential information based on the identifying marks. These portions containing confidential information are then encrypted and a hybrid document containing non-encrypted portions and encrypted portions is generated. The hybrid document is then sent to a recipient, along with a decryption key. The hybrid document is then marked by the recipient to designate those areas containing encrypted information. The marked document is then scanned to generate an electronic version, which is analyzed to identify which portions require decryption based on the identifying marks made by the recipient.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for applying a unique output characteristic to each document in a document set. The system and method is for use with a document processing system wherein multiple copies of a document are generated and each copy of the document has a unique output characteristic which distinguishes that copy from the other copies of the document set. In one embodiment, each copy has at least one of a unique watermark inserted or applied to the copy or is generated on a unique output medium so as to distinguish such copy from the other copies in the document set.

A service or processor receive the jobs via messaging and process the jobs in accordance with the service it is programmed to perform. The state objects then track the resources used by the jobs.
