  • Publication number: 20080219381
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for redundancy-based decoding of video content in a wireless system are provided. A wireless receiver may determine whether a received multimedia data stream comprises video content and may select a redundancy-based decoder when video content is detected. The wireless receiver may be a WLAN receiver or a cellular receiver. Video content may be indicated by at least one flag in a preamble or a reserved field of the received multimedia data. The redundancy-based decoder may be a Viterbi decoder. The wireless receiver may enable a standard Viterbi decoder to decode portions of the multimedia data that do not comprise video content. The wireless receiver may generate at least one signal to select the redundancy-based decoder or the standard Viterbi decoder.

  • Publication number: 20080052604
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for redundancy-based decoding of voice content in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system are provided. A WLAN receiver may determine whether a decoded portion of a received packet comprises voice content and may select a redundancy-based decoder to decode a remaining portion of the packet when voice content is detected. The redundancy-based decoder may be a Viterbi decoder. The redundancy-based decoder may be selected to decode a determined number of subsequent packets or to decode subsequent packets for a determined amount of time. After decoding the remaining portion of the packet and any subsequent packets, the WLAN receiver may select a standard Viterbi decoder to decode additional received packets. The WLAN receiver may generate at least one signal to select the redundancy-based decoder and the standard Viterbi decoder.

  • Publication number: 20080025211
Abstract: Methods and systems for content-aware mapping/error protection are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include controlling a MAC layer and/or a PHY layer (PHY/MAC layer), in a wireless communication device to wirelessly communicate multimedia information based on content of the multimedia information, which may comprise video information, audio information, and/or data. The controlling of the PHY/MAC layer may comprise selecting a forward error correction code and modulation to be applied to portions of the multimedia information, and selecting one or more antenna to transmit the portions of the multimedia information. The selection criteria may be based on priority assigned to the portions of the multimedia information, and on feedback information from the receiving device and/or a receiver co-located with the device transmitting the multimedia information.

  • Publication number: 20080025196
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for providing visually related content description to physical layer are provided. A MAC layer and/or a PHY layer in a wireless communication device may be controlled for processing at least one media object in an audiovisual scene based on metadata information that corresponds to the audiovisual scene. The metadata information may result from, for example, MPEG-4 encoding of the audiovisual scene. Each media object may be forward error corrected based on a determined priority level, such as foreground and background priorities, that results from the metadata information. In this regard, the number of bits utilized for protection and/or the RF modulated scheme may be selected in accordance with the priority level. The RF modulation may be, for example, QPSK modulation or 16 QAM modulation. The metadata information and the processed media objects may then be wireless communicated.

  • Publication number: 20080025210
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for medium access control (MAC) layer specialization for voice and multimedia data streams are presented. Aspects of the method include determining a number of attempts for transmitting one or more medium access control (MAC) frames. Aspects of the system may include a processor that enables determination of a number of attempts for transmitting one or more MAC frames. • Patent number: 7242687
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a method, system, and apparatus provide a substantially balanced distribution of multiple communication sessions across multiple processing timeslots. When a request to establish a communication session is received, a processing timeslot is allocated and associated with that communication session according to a load balancing scheme to distribute communication sessions across the processing timeslots. Subsequent information for a communication session is processed during the allocated timeslot for that communication session.

  • Patent number: 6771393
Abstract: A continuous-tone facsimile mechanism supports a transmission rate control mode to control the transmission rate of a continuous-tone image (e.g., a color image) based on the data rate between the transmitter and receiver. The transmission rate is controlled by scaling the original quantization values based on the data rate producing scaled quantization values which are then used to compress the image. The scaled quantization values are transmitted along with the compressed continuous-tone image. Via a rate control mode, a continuous-tone facsimile device with this transmission rate control technique can allow a user to specify whether the transmission rate control is activated or deactivated.

  • Patent number: 6662246
Abstract: A two-dimensional direct memory access system that maximizes processing resources in image processing systems. The present invention includes a two-dimensional direct memory access machine. Also, it employs a ping-pong style memory buffer to assist in the transfer and management of data. In certain applications of the invention, the type of data used by the invention is image data. The two-dimensional direct memory access machine transfers a specific cross sectional area of the image data to a processor. The efficient method of providing the processor only with the specific cross sectional area of the image data that is to be processed at a given time provides decreased processing time and a better utilization of processing resources within the two-dimensional direct memory access system.
