  • Patent number: 8371147
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for use in the manufacture of a spring unit for incorporation into an upholstered article, for example, a mattress, cushion or the like. Coil formation apparatus includes a drive shaft to control movement of a coil pitch guide member and a link member comprising a connecting rod adjustably connected to a radius arm of the drive shaft. A coil interlinking process comprises compressing a first coil to define a clearance, extending a second coil passed the first coil via the clearance, allowing the first coil to extend across the clearance, and contracting the second coil to engage the first coil thereby interlinking the first and second coils. Spring unit manufacturing apparatus comprises a plurality of jaw pairs each comprising a first fixed jaw and a pivotal second jaw, the pivotal second jaw being pivoted by a cam and linkage assembly operated by a rotary drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 8242176
Abstract: A novel combination of a biocide (Glutaraldehyde or OPA), a surfactant, alcohol, and functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry. The surfactant is preferably a dual chain quaternary ammonium compound consisting of a mixture of alkyl dimethy-benzylammonium chlorides and alkyl dimethylethylbenzylammonium, that absorbs onto a surface and alters the free energy of that surface. The alcohol is preferably isopropyl alcohol. The functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry are a cellulose type proppant, a poloxamer wetting agent, a friction-reducing pluronic block copolymer, a drag reducing agent such as polethylene oxide, and a flocculating agent. The biocide may be OPA of the dialdehyde C6H4(CHO)2 form, or Glutaraldehyde of formula C5H8O2. Both will produce an inherent bacteriostatic effect and lower surface tension and thus aids in the spread of the dual quat on the biofilm covered surface where it is readily absorbed by the negative surfaces of proteins and bacteria.

  • Publication number: 20120101063
Abstract: A combination biocide (Glutaraldehyde or OPA), quaternary phosphonium biocide, alcohol, and functional excipients for surface-sterilization of medical instruments and other objects. The quaternary phosphonium biocide is preferably TTPC, and the alcohol isopropyl alcohol. The OPA is the dialdehyde C6H4(CHO)2, which produces an inherent bacteriostatic effect, lowering surface tension, and aiding in the spread of the TTPC on the instrument surface where it is readily absorbed by the negative surfaces of proteins and bacteria. It thus serves as a binding agent between the TTPC and the application surface.

  • Publication number: 20120087993
Abstract: A combination biocide (Glutaraldehyde or OPA), quaternary phosphonium biocide (preferably TTPC), alcohol (preferably isopropyl alcohol), and functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry. The functional excipients for the oil and gas recovery industry are a cellulose type proppant, a poloxamer wetting agent, a friction-reducing pluronic block copolymer, a drag reducing agent such as polyethylene oxide, and a flocculating agent. The OPA may be of the dialdehyde C6H4(CHO)2 form, and the Glutaraldehyde of formula C5H8O2. Both will produce an inherent bacteriostatic effect and lower surface tension and thus aids in the spread of the TTPC on the biofilm covered surface where it is readily absorbed by the negative surfaces of proteins and bacteria. It thus serves as a binding agent between the TTPC and the application surface. The foregoing constituents are combined in preferred concentrations within acceptable ranges to provide a synergistic biological chemical complementarity system.

  • Publication number: 20110266902
Abstract: An apparatus having at least one rotatable driven object having an edge on which are disposed a series of adjacent magnets of alternating polarity and a driving object rotatable by an external motor torque and having a series of adjacent magnets of alternating polarity on a magnet supporting surface. The magnet supporting surface of the driving object is rotatable through a common region approximately centered about the point of closest approach to the magnet supporting edge of the driven object for sequentially placing magnets of the driving object in the region enveloping the effective interactive range between the two objects. The fields of magnets of opposite polarity of the driving object interact with the fields of the magnets on the driving object to effect rotation of the driven object. Disclosed are structures for torque limiting wheels, magnetic gear trains, reduction gears and ball joints, and propulsion systems for watercraft and aircraft.

  • Publication number: 20110112535
Abstract: The IM Rod extension is a metallic device, similar in size and shape to the proximal end of an IM Rod, meant to be attached to the distal end of an existing IM rod by distal exposure, and its purpose is to allow enhanced distal fixation of fractures, usually in the distal femur, by having variable sizes and greater option for direction and size of distal interlocking screw placement, and by being integrated with the existing IM Rod which maintains length and continuity with the rest of the femur.

  • Patent number: 7801273
Abstract: The field of the invention is diagnostic and interventional radiology and the invention is a dose indicator for use in a system for performing radiological procedures using ionizing radiation, for indicating a dose of radiation received in an area of skin by a subject during the radiological procedure, in which a zone is displayed which is representative of the extent of the area of skin exposed, and in which is a value of dose is displayed which is associated with the zone. The value of dose is representative of the dose of radiation received in the area of skin exposed during the procedure. The display is easily and quickly understood allowing the user of the system to swiftly understand the skin dose accrued by the patient. The use of zones provides an intuitive display.

  • Patent number: 7274879
Abstract: A control system for use in compensating for temperature-induced dispersion drift of an optical path, comprising an input adapted to obtain temperature data associated with the optical path; a control module adapted to determine control information on the basis of the temperature data; and an output adapted to provide a control signal to a dispersion compensator. The control signal is determined such that its receipt by the dispersion compensator causes the latter to induce a dispersive effect in a signal that travels the optical path, the dispersive effect being related to the control information. The ability to compensate for temperature-induced dispersion drift reduces the distortion margin in optical link budgets, allowing optical links to have longer reach, or to achieve the same reach using fewer line amplifiers. In a specific embodiment, dispersion compensation is accomplished via an open-loop control system such that feedback from the receiver site is not required.
