  • Publication number: 20060056922
Abstract: A soil conservation method includes producing a plurality of water accumulating units that are intercommunicated with one another, fixing the water accumulating units on a soil layer, and constructing paving and two channels on tops of the water accumulating units. The channels are located on two sides of the paving and communicated with at least one of the water accumulating units. A soil conservation system is thus provided. Rainwater falling on the paving is guided into the channels. The rainwater is then guided into and stored in the water accumulating units and then permeates into the soil layer.

  • Publication number: 20050152026
Abstract: An improved gain-clamped optical amplifier is disclosed. A series of laser cavities are placed along the amplifier axis. The laser cavities are designed such that the carrier densities of the amplifier decline toward the signal output end. Since the gain clamping amplitudes at positions along the amplifier can be different, we have the freedom to optimize the optical gain at all location, to minimize the noise impact at the signal input end, and to maximize the saturation output power at the signal output end. In addition, carrier levering effect realized by gain/loss wings further lowers the noise figure, and extends the optical gain and saturation output power. An ideal optical amplifier with high linear gain, small noise figure, and large saturation output power and extended dynamic range is then achieved. Energy saving is the bonus of using the invented amplifiers.

  • Publication number: 20040223449
Abstract: A method of mode detection for an OFDM signal. The method comprises the steps of a) selecting one of the desired symbol lengths, b) selecting one of the threshold values, c) generating a correlation power signal of the OFDM signal using the selected desired symbol length, d) detecting edges of the correlation power signal using the selected threshold value, e) when the edge detection succeeds, determining the transmission mode and guard interval length by the detected edges, and f) when the edge detection fails, determining whether all the threshold values have been selected, if so, selecting another one of the desired symbol lengths and repeating steps b, c, d, e and f, otherwise, selecting another one of the threshold values and repeating steps c, d, e and f.

  • Patent number: 6801812
Abstract: An input apparatus for a hand-held information processing device. The input apparatus has a main connection port adapted to connect the hand-held information processing device and a transmission port adapted to connect a computer. The input apparatus also includes a route selection unit and a user selection device. The route selection unit, coupled between the main connection port and the transmission port, is configured to selectively establish a transmission route between the main connection port and the transmission port. The user selection device is configured to selectively output a first logic level and a second logic level. Further, the route selection unit cuts the transmission route when the user selection device outputs the first logic level, and the route selection unit makes the transmission route conductive when the user selection device outputs the second logic level.

  • Patent number: 6669520
Abstract: A backplane with multiple arrayed electrodes positioned on the backplane is provided in a method of fabricating a liquid crystal (LC) panel. The method begins with coating an alignment layer on the backplane. By performing a rubbing process, multiple alignment trenches are formed on the alignment layer. A photoresist layer is then formed on the alignment layer. By performing a lithography process, both a side frame, having at least one slit, and multiple photoresist spacers(PR spacers) are formed on the alignment layer. A gasket seal is coated on the side frame and the multiple PR spacers. By performing a lamination process, a transparent conductive layer is laminated on the backplane. A liquid crystal filling (LC filling) processis then performed to fill a cell gap between the backplane and the transparent conductive layer with liquid crystal. Finally, an end sealing process is performed to seal the slit.

  • Patent number: 6186631
Abstract: A unitary two-section semiconductor optical amplifier including a first active region, a second active region, and a passive region integrally connected between the first and second active regions to minimize optical loss therebetween. The arrangement of the two-section semiconductor optical amplifier is advantageous in that the gain in the first active region may be increased in order to maintain a substantially constant input power level to the second active region over a relatively wide dynamic range of input power levels to the first active region.

  • Patent number: 5930423
Abstract: An optical coupling system couples an optical fiber to an optical semiconductor device. A beam expander is disposed within the optical semiconductor so as to receive light from or transmit light into the optical fiber. The coupling is accomplished by disposing a layer of an index matching gel or epoxy on either surface of the semiconductor optical device or the end portion of the optical fiber and another layer of an antireflective material adjacent to the index matching gel or epoxy. The semiconductor device may include an array of optical devices, each coupled to a corresponding optical fiber via the arrangement that comprises the index matching gel and the antireflective material. The semiconductor device may also include an array of waveguides, each configured to receive light from a corresponding optical fiber.
