  • Publication number: 20080175669
Abstract: A method and apparatus for slowing down or weakening a tropical storm such as a hurricane by using two scoops, each attached to opposite sides of a ship to force cool subsurface water to the surface so that the surface water temperature is reduced substantially over a relatively large area in front of the storm. The ship comprises a winch arrangement attached to a port scoop and a starboard scoop for lowering and raising the scoops. A second embodiment includes the addition of a port post and a starboard post each attached through a collar to a hinge on an upper portion of a port or starboard scoop and means for raising and lowering the posts. A third embodiment includes a refrigeration unit on the deck of a ship for further cooling of the subsurface water before returning it to the ocean surface.

  • Publication number: 20070194556
Abstract: A double trailer assembly for supporting elongate loads includes a lead trailer frame connected to a highway truck tractor and a pup trailer frame connected to the lead trailer frame. A lead swivel bunk supports the front end of the load on the lead trailer frame on lead wheels and a pup swivel bunk supports the rear end of the load on the pup trailer frame on pup wheels. The lead swivel bunk is slidable together with the lead wheels relative to the lead frame while the pup swivel bunk is slidable together with the pup wheels relative to the pup frame for adjusting wheelbase of the lead trailer for optimising handling at highway speeds, traction, load distribution or tracking of the trailers during low speed cornering for example. Relative sliding between the lead swivel bunk, the lead wheels and the lead trailer frame can be selectively restricted at a selected relative positioning therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5393084
Abstract: A double lead-pup trailer assembly for container transport has swivel bunks enabling the container to be carried on the articulated trailers. The rear swivel bunk slides rotatably within a slot extending to the rear of the pup trailer allowing the container to be directly unloaded. The coupling means between the trailers is adjustable between a highway articulated driving relationship, and a backing up aligned relationship. One advantage is the gross vehicle weight and payload are improved. Another advantage is that the container more closely tracks the tractor and trailer wheels on turns, thus providing more manoeuvrability and safety.
