  • Publication number: 20040029202
Abstract: The invention is to methods for screening women for breast cancer and precancer by determining a level of an estrogen-related marker. The invention further provides methods of treating such patients identified as having one or more abnormal ductal epithelial cells and an estrogen-related marker. The invention provides methods for screening patient for hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and of monitoring such patients once they begin HRT. The invention provides methods of treating peri-, menopausal or postmenopausal women for both cancer risk reduction and menopausal symptoms (or other conditions related to lowered systemic estrogen levels). The invention also provides kits for the screening, monitoring, and treating methods described.

  • Publication number: 20030170656
Abstract: The invention describes a method of screening for factors that modulate gene expression, by detection of factors including factors that stimulate or inhibit cell growth, differentiation or proliferation, factors involved in one or more signal transduction pathways, or factors involved in protein-protein interactions. Identification of such factors that modulate gene expression is accomplished by detection of an intracellular event mediated by the factor. The intracellular event can be an increase or decrease in transcription or translational activities. Detection of the intracellular event is accomplished by any highly sensitive assay targeting a transcription or translation product, including, for example, a bDNA assay to the nascent transcript induced by the factor.

  • Publication number: 20030153014
Abstract: This invention relates generally to the field of protein modification, e.g., post-translational modification. In particular, the invention provides a method for detecting protein modification profile in a sample, which method comprises: a) contacting a sample containing or suspected of containing a target protein with a capture molecule, or a plurality of capture molecules, immobilized on a solid support, said capture molecule is capable of specifically binding to said target protein, whereby said target protein is immobilized on said solid support; and b) assessing modification status and/or identity of said immobilized target protein. Kits and arrays useful for detecting protein modification are also provided. Arrays, kits and methods useful for detecting enzymatic activities, especially protein modification enzymatic activities, are further provided.

  • Publication number: 20030148335
Abstract: This invention relates generally to the field of target detection. In particular, the present inventions provides for methods and compositions for assaying a plurality of different non-nucleic acid targets or for assaying activities of a plurality of enzymes using, inter alia, oligonucleotide identification (ID) tags.

  • Patent number: 6165733
Abstract: A mammalian protein involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis specifically binds to phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. More specifically it binds to the Bcr homology domain of the p85 subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. Phathoidylinositol 3-kinase also binds to platelet derived growth factor receptor. Other receptors may also bind, including those for insulin, insulin-like growth factor-1, colony stimulating factor 1, nerve growth factor, hepatocyte growth factor, stem cell growth factor, and epidermal growth factor. Mitogenesis is the consequence of the binding and internalization of these growth factors. Inhibition of the process of receptor-mediated internalization inhibits mitogenesis.
