    Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of an optical wavelength division demultiplexer or multiplexer sub-assembly configured to receive or transmit optical signals conveyed thereto or therefrom by a fiber optic cable. Selected portions of external surfaces of the sub-assembly are coated with an electrically conductive paint, polymer or adhesive to provide an EMI, EMP or ESD shield. Typically, the sub-assembly comprises an integrally molded plastic optical block and a separate integrally molded coupling module with a ferrule and fiber optic cable receptacle. In one embodiment, selected external surfaces of the optical block and coupling module are coated with a coating having a predetermined electrical conductivity to provide a desired degree of EMI, EMP or ESD shielding.

    Abstract: The power input stabilizing circuit provides a first resistor at the input terminals to suppress impulse current. Then, the power passes through a power input limiting circuit including a non-polarity capacitor, a rectifier circuit formed by diodes, and a polarity capacitor so as to provide a current within a specific range to a load. A constant current circuit including a third resistor, a diode, a fourth resistor, and a transistor is then employed to stabilize the load current. The performance and durability of the electrical or electronic appliance using the power input stabilizing circuit are therefore enhanced significantly.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus having a modified Reed-Solomon decoder is used for finding a specific code group used by a base station and the frame timing synchronization with the base station. The modified Reed-Solomon decoder uses a standard Reed-Solomon decoder and some reliability measurements computed from the received code word symbols. If the reliability of a received symbol is too low, this symbol is considered as erasure. By selecting code word symbols with higher reliabilities and erasing code word symbols with lower reliabilities, the symbol error probability is reduced and the performance is improved. Several modified Reed-Solomon decoders and a few decoding strategies are introduced in order to decode the received code word sequences with a power- and memory-effective method.

    Abstract: Novel methods are herein provided for high-throughput, dual analysis of DNA methylation and gene expression, and triple analysis of DNA methylation, gene expression and gene-associated histone acetylation in cancer cells using arrayed expressed CpG island sequence tags (ECISTs). ECISTs correspond to genomic DNA fragments comprising GC-rich segments along with promoter and/or exon (e.g., first exon) portions of genes. The GC-rich segments are useful for screening hypermethylated CpG sites in cancer cells, while the corresponding promoter and exon-containing portions are useful for determining corresponding transcript levels and assessing histone acetylation. Also provided are high-throughput methods for either confirming methylation-dependent gene silencing, or identifying therapeutically effective demethylating agents, using the ECIST array panels to identify hypermethylated loci, and measure expression levels thereof after cellular exposure to demethylating agents.
