  • Patent number: 9877247
Abstract: A wireless communication system using cells to provide wireless access to services, comprising a first base station installed on board a public transportation vehicle to provide a moving cell, and a second base station installed at a stop at which users enter or leave the vehicle, to provide a fixed cell. A central controller guides handovers of users entering or leaving the vehicle. The first and second base stations to provide data concerning users to the central controller, and the central controller, over many journeys of the vehicle, gathers profile data of users based on the data provided by the base stations. As the vehicle approaches a stop, the central controller makes predictions about users likely to enter and leave the vehicle, and, provides guidance to the first and second base stations for performing handovers.

  • Publication number: 20170335812
Abstract: Fuel filtration systems having an automatic drain assembly for water that accumulates in the filter housing are described. The filtration system includes a filter media that is configured to remove particulate matter and dispersed water contained within the fuel. The water is drained to a drain reservoir within the filter housing where the water collects. When the water reaches a threshold level, a controller initiates a warning to the engine operator, such as a dashboard light, that instructs the operator to shut the engine off. When the engine is shut off, the collected water is drained through a valve of the automatic drain assembly. In some arrangements, the automatic drain assembly can be retrofitted to existing fuel filtration systems thereby reducing the cost of fitting the automatic drain assembly to existing internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 8902834
Abstract: A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems that includes a plurality of adjacent cells, each containing one or more base stations operable to transmit signals to, and receive signals transmitted from, one or more users. The users are operable to feed back to the relevant base station(s) channel state information relating to channel(s) between the relevant base station(s) and the users, and the base stations are operable to adapt signals for transmission to users, based on the fed back channel state information, to account for channel variations. The proposed method involves obtaining information related to time-variation in channel spatial structure, and adjusting the timing with which a user feeds back channel state information, based on the time variation in channel spatial structure. The invention helps to achieve a suitable balance between the feedback overhead and system performance, and may be operable in systems operating according to various CoMP transmission modes.

  • Publication number: 20140293790
Abstract: A traffic congestion estimation method used for a WLAN comprising wireless terminals (10, 11, 12) and access points (20, 21, 22). Based on measuring how busy the wireless channel of certain access point is, and the single user transmission rate resulted from a specific radio link, an association indicator is derived and a centralized association server (30) notifies a terminal (10, 11, 12) initiating a wireless link of the most suitable access point (20, 21, 22) to be associated with. The centralized association server (30) aims at maximizing each client's potentially achievable data rate. With the intelligent management of clients' association pattern, the clients' QoE is improved and network's congestion problems are relieved.

  • Publication number: 20130315156
Abstract: A method of scheduling coordination among cells in a cellular wireless network involving multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) communication. A first scheduling process selects user equipment within the said cell to be served by a coordinating group of cells in the network, and a second scheduling process group of cells to serve as a coordinating group for the user equipment, for which measurements are sent by the selected user equipment. The second scheduling process determines which group of cells, from a set of all possible groups of cells, provides the best value of a particular selection parameter used. The selection parameter may, for example be dependent upon the long-term link power coupling weights PW(ci) and spatial correlation weights d(ci) between user equipment in the cells.

  • Publication number: 20130310048
Abstract: An algorithm which considers the individual power consumption profiles for different types of base stations in a heterogeneous cellular network, and determines which base stations can be switched OFF in line with the traffic demand. The algorithm predicts (302) a spatially-accurate network load; calculates (304) the best serving BS for each load region; investigates (308-318) toads on Pico cells with respect to a threshold, and ranks (320) candidate Pico cells to be switched OFF in order of least power efficiency and most resource efficiency. Pico cells determined to remain on are fully loaded (322) allowing more candidates to be switched OFF (324). The algorithm optimizes the energy efficiency of the heterogeneous, cellular network, enabling the activation of the minimum number of base stations to support the predicted traffic demand for a given time period and allowing significant energy savings for the operator.

  • Publication number: 20130294272
Abstract: A cell ranking algorithm for power saving in a cellular wireless network having a heterogeneous network structure of macro and micro cells. The algorithm determines when and which micro cells in the network can be deactivated, by which the power consumption of the network can be reduced. A micro cell (Micro d) having a traffic load below a threshold value is deactivated and its load is assigned to adjacent macro cells (Macro a, Macro b) acting as compensation cells. The proposed algorithm is based on the comprehensive consideration of factors that have influence on the power saving of the network and the balance between the traffic load (or quality of service) and the energy saving.
