    Abstract: A method and apparatus supports Inter-Radio Access Technology (IRAT) Packet Switch (PS) handover during a simultaneous voice and data (SVD) mode in a mobile station that supports a Radio Access Technology (RAT). The method includes determining a state in which a data call is connected through a first system and a voice call is connected through a second system. The MS determines whether handover to the second system should be performed for the data call. A measurement report message that indicates a set of active base stations (BSs) of voice call connection in the second system is generated. And the measurement report message is transmitted to a serving BS of the data call connection in the first system.

    Abstract: A mobile terminal includes an apparatus configured to perform a method for inter-Radio Access Technology (RAT) measurement. When a measurement condition is satisfied, the apparatus turns on, at an operating module, a standby module and generates a time latch signal to the standby module at a time T0. The apparatus also latches, at the standby module, a time according to the time latch signal and reports the latched time value to the operating module. At the operating module, a measurement request message is sent. The measurement request message includes measurement parameter information and offset information between the time T0 and antenna switching times T2 and T5 to the standby module. The apparatus sets, at the standby module, a time interrupt using the information of the measurement message and performing inter-RAT measurement according to the time interrupt.

A signal level detector receives a noise estimation value and samples of the packet data control channel signal from the receiver, and outputs a validity signal for detecting whether information is received over the packet data control channel.     Abstract: A handoff method and apparatus for a terminal based on efficient set management. A pilot search rate for base stations of a neighbor set is increased, thereby preventing a failure to perform a necessary idle handoff or a failure to receive a paging message for a call connection. A terminal checks if it is in an idle state or in a traffic state, and measures the pilot energy of the BS of the active set and the pilot energy of a BS of the neighbor set with different pilot measurement patterns according to the checked state. The terminal measures the pilot of the BS of the active set and the pilots of at least one BS of the neighbor set while in the idle state. The terminal in the idle state operates in a sleep mode upon reception of information indicating that there is no paging channel, thereby minimizing its power consumption.

    Abstract: An apparatus of compensating for a frequency offset using a guard interval and a pilot symbol, which are inserted at a transmitter, in an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system. The OFDM system receives an OFDM signal in which a pilot symbol is inserted in data of a frame unit at regular intervals and a guard interval is inserted in a data symbol. In the system, a first carrier synchronizer receives a data symbol stream obtained by converting the OFDM signal to digital data, and detects a guard interval of each data symbol, to compensate for a coarse frequency offset. A fast Fourier transform part OFDM-demodulates a signal output from the first carrier synchronizer. A second carrier synchronizer detects the pilot symbol from the demodulated data symbol stream to compensate for a fine frequency error.
