Patent number: 8564553Abstract: An electronic stylus emits an excitation signal to apply to a trace of a capacitive touchpad module near a touch point when the electronic stylus touches the capacitive touchpad module, so as to change a waveform of a charging/discharging signal in the trace, and depending on the waveform variation, the capacitive touchpad module can identify the touch point.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2010Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: Elan Microelectronics CorporationInventors: I-Hau Yeh, Chi-Tein Yeh, Tsun-Min Wang, Chun-Chung Huang, Chung-Han Cheng, Hung-Ming Huang

Publication number: 20130265277Abstract: A capacitive touch panel controller has a memory and multiple driving signal output units. At least one transistor of each driving signal output unit and multiple transistors of the memory are fabricated by an identical semiconductor fabrication process so that the gate oxide layers of the transistors of the driving signal output unit and the memory are identical in thickness. As the transistor of each driving signal output unit and those of the memory are fabricated by a same high-voltage semiconductor fabrication process, the transistor of each driving signal output unit can be fabricated to provide a capacitive touch panel controller having high-voltage driving capability without using any high-voltage fabrication process and increasing the production cost. Due the high-voltage driving, the SNR and anti-interference capability can be increased.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2013Publication date: October 10, 2013Inventors: I-Hau YEH, Tsun-Min WANG, Chun-Chung HUANG

Publication number: 20120256876Abstract: A capacitive touchpad has insulating blocks provided above and below a resilient layer. The insulating blocks above the resilient layer are offset in position with respect to the insulating blocks below the resilient layer. Due to the insulating blocks, a plurality of gaps are formed in the capacitive touchpad. The gaps are filled with a fluid medium. When a conductive or non-conductive object touches the capacitive touchpad, the resilient layer is deformed at the touched position and thereby displaces the fluid medium completely from the affected gaps. As a result, the distance and the dielectric coefficient between the resilient layer or an electrode plate and a sensor layer are changed, causing variation in capacitance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2012Publication date: October 11, 2012Applicant: ELAN MICROELECTRONICS CORPORATIONInventors: I-HAU YEH, TA-FAN HSU, SHU-WEI HUANG

Publication number: 20120075215Abstract: A single-layer implemented two-dimensional touchpad includes two groups of sensing units arranged abreast along two directions, respectively. The first group of sensing units have one end adjacent to the connection region of the touchpad and are connected with wires routing to the connection region. The second group of sensing units are connected with wires bypassing the first group of sensing units and routing to the connection region. This arrangement decreases the number of wires routing through the margin of the circuit board of the touchpad to downsize the margin width and reduce the limitation to the touchpad size simultaneously, only by changing the layout of the sensing units, without increasing the manufacturing mask and steps.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: ELAN MICROELECTRONICS CORPORATIONInventor: I-HAU YEH

Publication number: 20120013571Abstract: A three-dimensional touch sensor is constructed from a two-dimensional capacitive touch sensor in association with a conductive layer and an elastic insulator or with an insulation layer and an elastic conductor. When the three-dimensional touch sensor is touched, the two-dimensional capacitive touch sensor positions the touch point in a sensing plane, and the elastic insulator or the elastic conductor deforms responsive to the pressure and thus generates a capacitance variation, from which a sensing value in the perpendicular direction is derived related to the magnitude of the pressure.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2011Publication date: January 19, 2012Applicant: ELAN MICROELECTRONICS CORPORATIONInventors: I-HAU YEH, TIEN-WEN PAO, CHIEN-HUI WU, TA-FAN HSU
