Patent number: 6167429Abstract: Using a server to provide access to a plurality of unrelated types of services, to a user communicating from a remote terminal to the server, by detecting a service access command sent from the user, the service access command comprising an indication of a service type, the service access command having a syntax which uses only alphanumeric characters, or "#" or "*" characters. Interpreting the command involves extracting the service type, to detect if the command further comprises one or more parameters relating to the service, extracting any such parameters and initiating the provision of the selected service. By having a server which understands commands in a form having a syntax using a limited set of characters, service access from telephones or terminals with smaller keyboards, becomes easier.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1998Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: David Edward William Mercer, Ian Alexander Macfarlane, A. Patent number: 6110878Abstract: Oil-soluble or oil-dispersible trinuclear molybdenum-sulfur compounds are made by reacting less than three, such as 1.5 to 2.5, preferably two to 2.1, molar equivalents of a disulfide with one molar equivalent of a compound containing the [Mo.sub.3 S.sub.13 ].sup.2- ion. The trinuclear compounds include S-containing ligands that are derived from the disulfide reactant via cleavage of the disulfide bond; the ligands are bound to the core via the S atoms.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents IncInventors: Jonathan M. Patent number: 6088890Abstract: A buckle for a vehicle safety restraint for use with a pretensioner has an actuating button for operating a latch for the tongue of the safety restraint. The button is connected via pulleys to a counterbalancing mass. When the pretensioner is operated and the buckle is retracted, the inertia of the mass counteracts the inertia of the button. Thus the button is prevented from moving in relation to the buckle in a direction which would tend to unlatch the tongue of the safety restraint.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Breed Automotive Technology, Inc.Inventors: David Burke, Ian Alexander Gordon, Alan George Smithson

Patent number: 5968517Abstract: A method for extraction and isolation of proanthocyanidins from biological material. The method includes the steps of hot water extraction of the material after comminution using deoxygenated water, separation of the solids from the liquor, concentration of liquor into a concentrated solution and waste streams, and drying the concentrated solution to a solid product. The hot water can be recycled. The residue results in a usable by-product and the tannins can be extracted from the tannin-rich waste stream. The most preferred biological material is bark from Pinus radiata trees which are 15 years old, the bark most optionally coming from the upper portion of the tree.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Inventors: Kelvin Winston Duncan, Ian Alexander Gilmour

Patent number: 5806218Abstract: A border for a substantially two-dimensional image comprises an anterior pattern and a posterior pattern, the patterns being space one from the other and being arranged to form, when viewed together, a resultant apparent pattern in a different plane to that of the image. The patterns each comprise relatively brighter and relatively darker regions, but each usually has a different pitch. The posterior pattern may advantageously comprise an array of reflective dots printed onto a major surface of a light transmissive sheet which may be edge lit by a light source. The border brightness can then be independent of ambient light conditions and simple to manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1996Date of Patent: September 15, 1998Assignee: Central Research Laboratories LimitedInventors: Ian Alexander Shanks, Christoph Dobrusskin
