Abstract: An assembly such as an anchor screw, bone plate, offset hook, post, transverse connector or other spinal anchor for anchoring to bone and clamping a linkage such as a rod, wire cable or the like. The assembly has a top member with an open slot to receive the linkage, and a twist-lock closure cap to close the open end, capturing the linkage in the slot. One closure cap fits over and around the top member, with a set of segmented protrusions that extend through a corresponding set of protruding flange segments spaced about the circumference of the top member. The cap is configured to rotate and lock against the top member like a flange-locking bayonet mount when turned through a limited degree of rotation.

Abstract: A cross connector for connecting two longitudinal members, such as rods, in spinal surgery has a connectors for connecting to the longitudinal members and a ball joint therebetween to allow polyaxial rotation of the connectors.

Abstract: A reactive energy apparatus providing a custom fit and ankle support in a shoe upper is comprised of a pair of fluid filled pads that are positioned in the upper on opposite sides of the Achilles tendon of the wearer. The fluid filled pads each contain one or more interior chambers containing fluid, and the pads are connected in fluid communication by a series of conduits extending between the pads and around the Achilles tendon of the wearer. The conduits are constructed to enable the free flow of fluid between the two pads, enabling the apparatus to provide a continuous custom fit and dynamic support for the wearer's ankle while avoiding exerting any pressure on the Achilles tendon of the wearer that could potentially injure the tendon.

Abstract: In an arithmetic apparatus operands are represented as powers of a generator so that multiplications can be performed as simple additions. However this makes actual addition difficult. Additions are therefore performed by means of a subtractor circuit (1), a Zech table (2) and an adder circuit (3). In order to perform these additions when each power is in plural residue form (x.sub.1, x.sub.2 and y.sub.1, y.sub.2) and give the result power also in plural residue form (i.sub.1, i.sub.2), the subtractor circuit comprises subtractor subcircuits (1A, 1B), the adder circuit comprises adder subcircuits (3A, 3B) and the Zech table is arranged to produced its output also in plural residue form (j.sub.i, j.sub.2). In order to obtain the correct result even when the power representation y.sub.1, y.sub.2 represents an operand value of zero the apparatus also includes a detector (58) for this condition, this controlling a multiplexer (61) which then conducts the other operand (x.sub.1, y.sub.

Abstract: Document handling apparatus 10 includes a reception platen 32 disposed below and movable with respect to a dot-matrix printer 28 having a printer head 30. A document placed on the platen 32 can therefore be brought into register with the printer head 30 by the raising and/or lowering of the platen 32 which is caused by a solenoid 48 linked to an eccentric cam 40 disposed below the platen 32. Rubber stoppers 38, 39 act as spacing means to ensure that a document in contact with the platen 32 and the stoppers 38 is at a distance from the printing head 30 pre-determined to allow the head 30 during its operation to contact the document's surface. Rollers 52 cause the document to be moved over the platen 32 and a sensor is provided to sense the presence of the document and actuate the solenoid.

However, this makes actual addition difficult. Additions are therefore performed by means of a modulo (p-1) subtractor circuit (1), a Zech table (2) and a modulo (p-1) adder circuit (3). In order to reduce the size of the Zech table which would otherwise be required, specific values of the output of the subtractor circuit are converted to their negatives modulo (p-1) by means of a converter circuit (15) prior to their application to the Zech table, making use of the fact that each negative modulo (p-1) maps directly to a unique positive number which is often different from the number which was originally converted.
