  • Publication number: 20140234427
Abstract: The invention provides a method of preventing or reducing the growth of crystals in a substance which is susceptible to crystal growth in which colloidal particles having an amphiphilic structure, e.g. Janus particles, are contacted with the substance. Colloidal particles suitable for use in the invention include cross-linked, colloidal materials formed from hydrophobic monomers such as acrylates or methacrylates and hydrophilic monomers such as those derived from acrylic and/or methacrylic acid. The colloidal particles find particular use in methods of cryopreservation of biological samples (e.g. cells, tissues or organs), as a texture modifier in frozen food products, in the inhibition of gas hydrate formation, and as scale inhibitors.

  • Patent number: 7025789
Abstract: The prosthesis device can have a pair of articular members adapted to be mounted onto adjoining bones, respectively, to replace a joint. The first and second articular members can have first and second bearing elements, respectively. The bearing elements can be formed to be capable of replacing at least a portion of the bone ends of the adjoining bones, respectively, and providing an articulation close to that of a natural joint. The bearing elements can be fixed to the respective bones through an initial implant fixation achieved by press-fit anchoring immediately after surgery and/or a secondary implant fixation established from bone-ingrowth.

  • Publication number: 20060050985
Abstract: A method (500) of generating a matching key (599) for an image (501) is disclosed. The matching key (599) is substantially invariant to rotation, scale and translation. The method (500) starts by forming a spatial domain representation of the image (501) that is substantially invariant to translation of the image (501). Rotation and/or scaling in the spatial domain representation is next transformed (580) into translation to form a transformed image. A representation of the transformed image is then formed that is substantially invariant to translation of the transformed image. The representation of the transformed image is the matching key (599) for the image (501).

  • Patent number: 6707463
Abstract: A graphics processor performs graphical operations on graphical objects represented in an external data format. The graphics processor includes a setup unit, first and second mapping units, and a calculator. The setup unit sets up one or more registers reflecting a current instruction. The first mapping unit maps, responsive to the current instruction, the external data format to at least one corresponding internal data format selected from a set of internal data formats. The calculator performs graphical operations on the graphical objects when in one of the selected internal data formats. The second mapping unit maps, responsive to the current instruction, each internal data format in the set of internal data formats to the external data format after the graphical operations have been performed.

  • Patent number: 6414687
Abstract: A graphics processor includes a plurality of interrelated functional modules and at least one register associated with each of the functional modules. The plurality of interrelated functional modules are interconnected by a data pipeline for conveying data, and each register is configured to control a function of its associated functional module. The graphics processor also includes a control bus interconnecting each of the registers for conveying instructions, and an instruction controller for decoding instructions for use with the graphics processor. The control bus and the data pipeline are physically separate, and the instruction controller includes a register setting unit adapted to set the registers via the control bus in accordance with a decoded instruction. This enables the function of each of the functional modules to be configured in response to each instruction.
