  • Publication number: 20100331677
Abstract: A marker delivery system including a surgical needle defining a lumen. The surgical needle is adapted to receive a marker. The surgical needle includes a side opening substantially adjacent to a first end of the surgical needle. The marker delivery system also includes a plunger insertable into the surgical needle at a second end of the surgical needle. Depression of the plunger inside the lumen of the surgical needle pushes the marker through the side opening of the surgical needle.

  • Publication number: 20100113866
Abstract: Systems and methods are delineated for treating urinary incontinence (UI). And more generally, systems and methods are delineated for providing medical treatment, wherein such systems and methods include means for attaching a structure to a patient and removing the structure without damage to the structure or the patient. An exemplary system for providing medical treatment comprises a structure having a first end and a second end for attachment to a patient. A first fastener is coupled to the first end and includes at least one retractable barb for attachment to the patient. A second fastener is coupled to the second end and includes at least one retractable barb for attachment to the patient. Removable fasteners including retractable barbs or equivalents thereof permit removal of the structure from the patient without damage to the structure as well as limiting trauma to the patient.

  • Patent number: 7518733
Abstract: Light is directed along a sample path towards the sample surface and along a reference path towards a reference surface such that light reflected by the sample surface and light reflected by the reference surface interfere. Relative movement is effected between the sample surface and the reference surface along a measurement path and the light intensity resulting from interference between light reflected from the reference surface and regions of the sample surface is sensed at intervals along the measurement path to provide a number of sets of light intensity data values with each light intensity data value representing the sensed light intensity associated with a corresponding one of said regions. The sets of light intensity data are processed to determine a position along the measurement path at which a predetermined feature occurs in the light intensity data for each sensed region and to enhance image data representing the intensity data to facilitate the detection by a user of the interference fringes.

  • Patent number: 5784729
Abstract: The invalid hoist comprises a mobile chassis 10, a lifting column 11 upstanding from the chassis and a lifting arm 12 supported by the lifting column. The chassis comprises a main portion 13 extending transversely of the hoist and two side members 14 which are movable between a first in-use position in which they project forwardly from the main portion, and a second storage position in which they extend parallel or substantially parallel to the lifting column. Side members 14 are also pivotable about a vertical axis, allowing them to spread away from one another at their forward ends. Releasable means 22 may be provided for holding the lifting arm in an operative position and for releasing the lifting arm to allow it to pivot into a storage position alongside the lifting column.
