Patent number: 5461771Abstract: A pedestal is fixed inside an outer casing of the flowmeter and a core is fixed on the pedestal. In one embodiment, the outer casing to which the core is fixed is rotated by a power roller, and slits are cut into the core by a laser beam apparatus. The cutting of such slits reduces the eddy current in such flowmeters. Depending on the movement of the laser apparatus with respect to the rotation of the outer casing, a spiral slit or a circular slit may be formed. Other patterns of slits may also be cut. A lathe may be used in place of the laser apparatus. The flowmeter includes an exciting coil, a measuring pipe and other necessary elements which are fixed to the outer casing after the slits are cut in the core.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1992Date of Patent: October 31, 1995Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Ichiro Wada

Patent number: 5090250Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter has first and second magnetic field generating units. The first magnetic field generating unit applies a first magnetic field having a square wave of 4 to 8 Hz to a fluid to be measured. The second magnetic field generating unit applies a second magnetic field having a square wave of 25 to 35 Hz independently of the first magnetic field. A first electromotive force signal induced by the first magnetic field and a second electromotive force signal induced by the second magnetic field are detected by electrodes. A determination circuit determines whether the first electromotive force signal is normal and outputs a determination result. A first signal processing circuit generates a first flow rate signal on the basis of the first electromotive force signal. A second signal processing circuit generates a second flow rate signal on the basis of the second electromotive force signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1990Date of Patent: February 25, 1992Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Ichiro Wada

Patent number: 5028146Abstract: An optical fiber is installed to pass through a plurality of measurement places. Predetermined positions in the optical fiber are set at a predetermined temperature. When an optical signal is radiated on the optical fiber, Raman scattering occurs at various portions of the optical fiber. The intensities of the Raman scattered light components depend on temperatures. Backscattered light components of the Raman scattered light are sampled and stored in a memory. A temperature distribution on the optical fiber is obtained on the basis of the stored data. The temperatures of the mesurement places can be specified on the basis of the predetermined temperature on the obtained temperature distribution as a reference. The temperatures of the measurement places can be corrected on the basis of the predetermined temperature.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1990Date of Patent: July 2, 1991Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Ichiro Wada

Patent number: 4769097Abstract: A nonsintered ceramic body is prepared. A hole is formed in the nonsintered ceramic body. A rod is inserted into the hole. The rod has large- and small-diameter portions within the area facing to the hole. The ceramic body is sintered while the rod is inserted into the ceramic body. By this sintering, the ceramic body is brought into tight contact with the rod by utilizing shrinkage of the ceramic body. The resultant structure is cooled. As a result, the large diameter portion of the rod presses a projection of the ceramic body extending inside the hole by a shrinkage difference due to the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the ceramic body and the rod. At least part of the ceramic body is brought into tight contact with at least part of the rod. The rod closes the hole of the ceramic body and the rod is fixed in the ceramic body.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1987Date of Patent: September 6, 1988Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Ichiro Wada
