  • Patent number: 6892846
Abstract: A four-wheel drive assist for electric machines includes an electric drive system for driving wheels at a non-steering end and a selectively operable hydraulic system for driving wheels at a steering end. A controller controls the operation of the drive system according to operator selection and/or by detecting slipping of the electric drive system. Preferably, at least one hydraulically driven operating arm, including boom functions, lift platform, etc., is driven by the same hydraulic pump that drives the steering end hydraulic system. The machine thus is capable of effecting four-wheel drive when necessary, while operating as efficiently as a conventional two-wheel drive full electric machine when the four-wheel drive system is not engaged.

  • Publication number: 20040218997
Abstract: A panel installation apparatus is cooperable with an aerial work platform of a lift vehicle for installation of panels on a surface. The apparatus includes a trolley movable on at least one rail supported by the aerial work platform between a displaced position spaced from the surface and engaged position adjacent the surface. The trolley is sized to support a panel to be installed. At least one mounting unit is fixed to the aerial work platform via a mounting unit frame and pivotable between a receiving position adjacent the trolley in the engaged position and an installing position adjacent the surface. The mounting unit includes at least one fixing unit selectively attachable to the panel. With the panel delivered to the mounting unit, the mounting unit can be pivoted and secured to the panel via the fixing unit, and the panel can be subsequently pivoted adjacent the surface for installation.

  • Publication number: 20040045768
Abstract: A scissors lift includes a scissors arm assembly secured at one end to a base and coupled with a lift mechanism that expands and contracts the scissors arm assembly. A platform is supported at an opposite end of the scissors arm assembly via a plurality of load sensing pins that detect a vertical load on the platform. An interface module receives signals from the load sensing pins and communicates with the lift mechanism, wherein the interface module controls operation of lift functions and the lift mechanism according to the signals from the load sensing pins. Preferably, the load sensing pins are sized substantially the same as the conventional pins they replace. As a consequence, no redesign or additional structures are necessary to install the load sensing system and provide a safe operation of the scissors lift machine.

  • Publication number: 20030173324
Abstract: A measurement system uses dual axis force sensor pins to effectively assess the tipping moment of a load-bearing vehicle and anticipate imminent tipping in any direction. The pins are installed in the pivot points of the boom of a lift vehicle and its main lift cylinder, substituting the standard structural pins presently used. For non-traditional boom support arrangements, one sensor pin for each moving part attachment to non-moving turntable is required. Each of the sensors provides the actual force components acting on the sensor in two perpendicular axes. The output signals are then utilized to assess vehicle stability and detect when the machine is approaching instability in order to warn the operator and/or restrict vehicle movements.

  • Patent number: 6571913
Abstract: A multipurpose machine is provided with independently operable scissors lift functionality and fork lift functionality enabling the machine to perform a number of tasks such as moving personnel and tools, lifting loads, fetching parts, and easy access to equipment/material while working at heights. The machine includes a base, a platform lift mechanism defining a scissors lift secured to the base, and a platform supported by the scissors lift. A fork lifting mechanism secured to the base includes a mast assembly and lifting forks coupled with the mast assembly. The base is preferably fitted with wheels mounted on respective axles, one of which may be an oscillating axle to increase the mobility of the machine. The independent operability of a scissors lift and fork lifting mechanism in a single multipurpose machine provides versatility for numerous applications.

  • Patent number: 6561546
Abstract: A pothole protection mechanism for a lift machine includes a frame that is securable to the lift machine, a pothole protection bar movably coupled with the frame via a support linkage, and an actuator coupled between the frame and the pothole protection bar. The actuator is sized for a force sufficient only to lift the pothole protection bar. The support linkage includes a coupling bar driven by the actuator that is connected between two pivot joints secured between the frame and the pothole protection bar. In the extended or deployed position, the pivot joints are pivoted to an over-center position and the coupling bar is abutted against a stop. As such, when a vehicle to which the pothole protection mechanism is attached falls into a pothole or off a curb or the like, the weight of the machine is supported by the pothole protection bar and support linkage and not by the actuator.

  • Patent number: 6065565
Abstract: An apparatus includes a generator assembly having a power source operable to power a generator. The generator is connected to a battery assembly having one or more batteries. The battery assembly is operably connected to a drive system, such as an electric drive propulsion assembly and/or an electric or hydraulic positioning assembly.
