  • Patent number: 4173283
Abstract: A support strip preferably made of resilient material and adapted to permit a number of sliders to be removably mounted astraddle one of the longitudinal edges thereof for the sake of convenience in storage. A longitudinal row of spaced apart apertures is formed through the support strip substantially the full length thereof, such that when the sliders are later required for the assemblage of complete slide fasteners, the sliders can be fed to a desired assemblying machine with the support strip running over a sprocket having its teeth engaged in the successive apertures formed therein. A reciprocable push rod may be employed for removal of the successive sliders from the support strip.

  • Patent number: 4035876
Abstract: A slide fastener adapted for unopenably closing an opening in an upholstery covering of a seat. For semipermanently locking a slider in a closed position on interlockable rows of fastener elements, a stop is fixedly mounted on the interlocked fastener elements in close contact with the rear end of the slider in the closed position. Typically, the stop is formed by a staple similar to the conventional bottom stop of a blind fastener.

  • Patent number: 4009505
Abstract: There is disclosed an adapter and anchoring means combination for securing floor coverings into position on floors or the like. The adapter comprises a longitudinal strip for attachment to a reverse surface of the covering or carpet and a locking projection formed integrally with and extending along a longitudinal edge of the strip. The anchoring means is in the form of plinth or baseboard and has an elongate channel and a slit communicating coextensively with the channel. The locking projection protrudes from an edge of the carpet and is retained in locked relation to the channel when the adapter is attached to the carpet.

  • Patent number: 4000545
Abstract: A slide fastener capable of being forced open in an emergency without manipulating a slider along interlocking rows of scoops. The slide fastener comprises an emergency opening zone at its intermediate point where the rows of scoops are incapable of interlocking engagement when the fastener is closed, and a pair of rigid reinforcements fixedly arranged along and on the opposite sides of the zone. Each reinforcement extends beyond both extremities of the zone, so that the fastener will not open accidentally from the zone but will open unfailingly upon application of a finger pressure to the zone in an emergency.

  • Patent number: 4000546
Abstract: A slider for use with a pair of concealed fastener stringers in which rows of scoops are stitched to respective folds formed rearwardly along the opposed longitudinal edges of stringer tapes, in such a manner that each tape fold has a loose outermost edge on the outside of the line of stitching. A pair of side walls on the marginal edges of the rear wall of the slider body extend from its lower end and terminate short of its upper end, and a pair of outer lips turned inwardly from the side walls extend close to the lipped inboard end of a separator on the upper end of the rear wall. The slider of this configuration is capable of preventing the jamming of the loose outermost edges of the tape folds as they enter the guide channel in the slider body during the fastener closing movement of the slider.

  • Patent number: 3993724
Abstract: For the manufacture of a continuous coupling element of zigzag or meandering type, a blank strip of sheetlike material is first cut by rotary cutters into a continuous rodlike member of zigzag configuration. This zigzagging rodlike member is reshaped, as by a cooperative pair of forming dies, into meandering configuration in which the major transverse portions of the rodlike member are arranged parallel to each other with constant longitudinal spacings. Pressure is then applied centrally to each transverse portion of the meandering rodlike member to form a pair of lateral protuberances for use as a coupling head in the completed coupling element, and these transverse portions are bent by a combination guide channel-toothed wheel into the shape of a "U".

  • Patent number: 3984901
Abstract: A continuous coupling element is fashioned from an elongated synthetic resin filament or the like, which filament is bent to a zigzag or meandering configuration to provide a series of U-shaped transverse portions each having a coupling head and a pair of legs extending rearwardly therefrom. Parts of the legs of each U-shaped portion are deformed to provide tape gripping portions, respectively, which include laterally expanded, flat surfaces arranged in opposed relationship to each other. The continuous coupling element is to be anchored to a stringer tape as by bonding or fusing the tape gripping portions to the opposite surfaces of the tape.

  • Patent number: 3977051
Abstract: A slide fastener having an emergency opening zone at its intermediate point from which the fastener can be forced open in an emergency without pulling a slider along interengaged rows of fastener elements. To make this slide fastener reusable, a slider escape mechanism is arranged at its top end for causing the slider to ride on only one of the stringers by releasing the other stringer therefrom after the fastener has been forced open. Arranged at the bottom end of the fastener is a connect-disconnect terminal mechanism which may take the form of a box-and-pin separable coupling, such that the fastener stringer can be reconnected to permit normal slider movement after having been completely separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 3977052
Abstract: An automatic slider lock mechanism releasable by a pull tab, comprising a locking leaf spring arranged under the island separator on the front end of the slider body, and an actuating lever received in an aperture formed through the separator. The actuating lever has a pair of shoulders at its bottom end which are urged by the leaf spring into engaging contact with the bottom edges of the separator. Upon exertion of a pull on the pull tab coupled to the top end of the actuating lever, the latter is pivoted within the aperture to cause retraction of a locking pawl at one end of the leaf spring away from the guide channel in the slider body.

  • Patent number: 3977053
Abstract: In a slide fastener stringer having a row of discrete fastener elements arranged along one longitudinal edge thereof and each comprising a coupling head at its front end and a pair of parallel spaced legs extending rearwardly from the coupling head, the rear end portions of the legs of each fastener element are flattened into plate-like shape, with steps formed between these flattened rear end portions of the respective legs and their remaining portions. The flattened rear end portions of the legs of each fastener element are embedded into the stringer tape from both surfaces thereof, to such a degree that the outer surfaces of the flattened rear end portions are flush with the corresponding surfaces of the stringer tape, thereby providing slideways for the marginal guide flanges of a slider traveling along the fastener elements.

  • Patent number: 3973300
Abstract: The bottom wing of the slider body has a pair of lateral extensions which are angled toward the top wing. When the slide fastener including this slider is attached to an article such that the opening therein is bounded by one or two pairs of edges disposed in opposed or abutting relationship, the lateral extensions from the bottom wing serve as guide members to raise the rear edge portions of the respective stringer tapes out of the plane of their element-carrying front edges. Since the article edges are thus held over, and under, the slider body, they are prevented from becoming caught between the top and bottom wings of the slider body during slider movement along the fastener elements.

  • Patent number: 3959430
Abstract: A method of producing a ladder-like structure for use as a row of interlocking elements for a slide fastener is disclosed. A pair or pairs of elongated connecting members are advanced in parallel alignment along their length at predetermined intervals. For the pair or pairs of connecting members, a plurality of element-forming spaced strips of a thermoplastic material are fed simultaneously for attachment transversely to the connecting members. The result is to produce a ladder-like structure at increased rate of speed which is suitable for use as a row of fastener elements.

  • Patent number: 3958319
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing element-free gaps or spaces in a continuous fastener chain. Means are provided for supporting a series of discrete fastener elements formed by die-casting a metal or injection-molding a plastics material and secured to a tape cord with their coupling heads faced upwardly, severing the fastener elements into halves at the coupling heads towards the cord and removing the severed elements completely from the cord without damage thereto. The severing operation is effected by a vertically movable cutter blade adapted to thrust centrally into the coupling heads toward the cord and is immediately followed by the removing operation wherein a pair of removers are moved downwardly to take the severed elements away from the cord when the supporting means are forced out of holding engagement with the fastener elements.
