Abstract: A bearing component 2 for a joint replacement prosthesis comprises a first bearing element 4; a second bearing element 6, and a linking element 8, operatively connecting the first and second bearing elements 4, 6 and permitting relative motion there between. The flexible linking element 8 prevents dislocation of mobile bearings in a total knee replacement prosthesis. The invention also relates to a bridging element which retains the linking element 8 with some play, which acts as a ligament support 2051, and which causes a deflection of the line of action of a ligament 1018. A joint replacement prosthesis is also disclosed comprising a biasing element 1140 or a tensioning element 1220 operatively coupled to the artificial ligament 1018. The biasing element 1140 or tensioning element 1220 may be housed in the stem of a tibia tray 1006.

Abstract: An implantable sensor configured to be inserted in an intramedullary canal can include a primary insert, a secondary insert, and an antenna. The primary insert can include a distal end, a proximal end opposite the distal end, and a central bore that can extend from an opening in the distal end towards the proximal end. A secondary insert can be receivable within the central bore through the opening. The secondary insert can include a body and a sensor module. The body can be removably engageable with an inside surface of the central bore. The sensor module can be disposable within the body and can be configured to produce a sensor signal as a function of a first sensed parameter indicative of infection. The antenna can be disposed in the central bore. The antenna can be configured to transmit a wireless signal as a function of the sensor signal.

  • Publication number: 20180077663
Abstract: A linear wireless sensor network includes network nodes having monotonically varying network node identifiers along each branch of the network. The network identifiers enable the nodes to forward network packets without use of routing tables. Low duty cycle wireless communication protocols enable network packets to be routed to all nodes of very large networks while consuming very little electrical power. Broadcast, rather than unicast, transmissions between nodes take advantage of favorable signal propagation conditions to forward messages using largest possible hops, skipping over nodes when possible. A group of network packets is broadcast and forwarded by a most distant receiving node that received all packets of the group. A receiving node's clock is automatically adjusted, based on which packet(s) of a group of packets was received. A sending node synchronizes near-by receiving nodes. Nodes are provisioned over-the-air, with built-in scheduling.

  • Publication number: 20180064538
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a bone attachment coating to a prosthetic component, the bone attachment coating being formed from a plurality of particles applied to a surface of the prosthetic component. The method comprising: locally exciting the particles so as to increase the kinetic and/or thermal energy of the particles; and applying pressure to the particles by virtue of a press arranged so as to press the particles against the surface of the prosthetic component at an interface between the press and the prosthetic component. The kinetic and/or thermal energy of the particles causes localised heating of the component such that the particles may be embedded into the surface of the prosthetic component.

Low duty cycle wireless communication protocols enable network packets to be routed to all nodes of very large networks while consuming very little electrical power. A receiving node's clock is automatically adjusted, based on which packet(s) of a group of packets was received. A sending node synchronizes near-by receiving nodes.

  • Patent number: 9600354
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a virtual tape library (VTL) receives a plurality of small computer system interface (SCSI) data objects, and translates the SCSI data objects into a first set of one or more remote procedure call (RPC) data objects having a first size, wherein the first size of the first RPC data set is based on a current limit maintained by the VTL. The VTL writes the first RPC data set and a first RPC commit request to a file system. The VTL receives a first RPC status corresponding to the first RPC commit from the file system, and determines a first latency time between writing the first RPC commit and receiving the first RPC status. The VTL updates the current limit based on the first latency time in order to optimize a second latency time between a second RPC commit request and a corresponding second RPC status.
