  • Patent number: 5758642
Abstract: A face mask for the delivery of a gas to a patient includes a body portion forming an open sided chamber having a peripheral edge for contacting the face of the patient. The body portion has an integrally formed nose portion and chin portion and increases in width from the nose portion toward the chin portion giving the body portion generally triangular shape. A nose portion has a reduced dimension such that a contour of the nose portion conforms to the contour of the nose of the patient forming a sealing fit therebetween. The nose portion has an upper end terminating in all apex extending toward the bridge of the nose and is configured to contact the nose at a point substantially below the bridge of the nose so as to eliminate interference between the nose portion and the eyes of the patient. An elastic strap is secured proximal the peripheral edge of body portion to retain the face mask against the face of the patient.
