  • Publication number: 20100232297
Abstract: The present invention is to select an adaptation scheme for the transmission of the encoded media that results in a satisfactory performance of the transmitted encoded media. A difference from the prior art is that each adaptation scheme defines a set of different transmission formats, wherein each transmission formats is a combination of at least two of the parameters the source codec bit rate, the packet rate, the number of frames of each packet (referred to as frame aggregation), and the level of redundancy. By using the different transmission formats, the transmission can be adapted to different operating scenarios and the performance is hence improved.

  • Patent number: 7725324
Abstract: Signals of different channels are combined into one mono signal. A set of adaptive filters, preferably one for each channel, is derived in a respective filter adaptation unit. When an adaptive filter is applied to the mono signal it reconstructs the signal of the respective channel under a perceptual constraint. The perceptual constraint is a gain and/or shape constraint. The gain constraint allows the preservation of the relative energy between the channels while the shape constraint allows more stability by avoiding unnecessary filtering of spectral nulls. The transmitted parameters are the mono signal, in encoded form, and the parameters of the adaptive filters, preferably also encoded. The receiver reconstructs the signal of the different channels by applying the adaptive filters and possibly some additional post-processing.

  • Publication number: 20100080328
Abstract: A receiver includes a detector for detecting a change in source of incoming media during an on-going communication session, and means to provide a reset signal in order to reset decoder states of a decoder in response to such a detected change before decoding new incoming media. In this way, a state mismatch can be avoided without the need for several active decoder instances in the receiver, leading to substantial savings with respect to overall complexity, memory usage and power consumption. This also means that media distortions can be eliminated or at least reduced when the decoded media is finally rendered by a player.

  • Patent number: 7668744
Abstract: A fleet engine, a crew engine, a passenger engine and an integration engine that communicate with a distributed computer network via two-way communication channels to monitor and repair disruptions to schedules particularly in the airline industry. When a disruption occurs, the method will produce a plurality of solutions that are structurally different for evaluation by the controller or operations manager. The method of generating solutions includes two phases. A first phase with artificially relaxed costs and a second phase with costs that reflect the policies and actual costs of the relevant activities. Upon creating structurally different solutions, the method evaluates the solutions and presents summary information about the solutions to the operations manager. If a violation of a rule occurs in a solution, an alert is generated to notify a user of the rule violation.

  • Publication number: 20100014477
Abstract: A base station detects the transition of a mobile station from a DTX mode to a continuous transmission mode. The base station schedules an uplink transmission by the mobile station during an uplink transmission period while the mobile station is in DTX mode and receives an uplink LLC PDU from said mobile station during the scheduled uplink transmission periods. The base station determines the operating mode of the mobile station based on the size of the received uplink LLC PDU.

  • Publication number: 20100017509
Abstract: In order to efficiently handle the switch between user media and announcement media, a basic step is to first determine a configuration of the user media. Next, a configuration of the announcement media to be presented is determined based on the determined user media configuration. Subsequently, the announcement media is configured according to the announcement media configuration, and the configured announcement media is finally sent to the intended user. In this way, the overall appearance or sound of the announcement will be virtually the same as or at least similar to the overall appearance or sound of the user media, preferably without distortions. This allows the user to perceive the announcement as clearly as possible.

  • Publication number: 20090245272
Abstract: In a method of improved media frame transmission in a communication network. Initially a plurality of “original” or regular media frames are provided for transmission. According to the invention, robust representations of the provided regular media frames are generated and stored locally. Subsequently, one or more of the regular media frames is/are transmitted. The invention detects an indication of a loss of a transmitted media frame, and the idea is to transmit, in response to a detected frame loss, a stored robust representation of the lost media frame and/or a stored robust representation of a subsequent, not yet transmitted, media frame to increase the media quality.

  • Publication number: 20090177465
Abstract: The present invention relates to speech coding in wireless and wireline communication systems. The present invention provides a method of saving bandwidth by a controlled dropping of speech frames at an encoder in a sending communication device. The dropping is controlled in a manner to minimize the effects on the speech quality after the decoding in the receiving communication device, by assuring that the state mismatch between the encoder and the decoder is removed or at least significantly reduced. This is achieved by letting the encoder run an ECU algorithm with a similar behavior as the one running in the decoder in the receiving communication device.

  • Publication number: 20070211724
Abstract: A method and a communication station for determining a packet format of a data packet based on at least one compressed header information field. A header packet format of a data packet is determined based on the determined packet format of a partially or completely compressed header information part. The station may also determine a codec rate based on the result of a previously performed compression of at least one header information field. In one embodiment, internal cross-layer signaling from a header generator module to a payload generator module in the communication station is used for signaling information associated with determining the header packet format of the data packet. The method reduces bandwidth fluctuations associated with services such as text messaging audio, or audiovisual services; lowers the delay variations and the erasure rates for application media streams; and provides for faster set-up of sessions.

  • Publication number: 20070147314
Abstract: A network processing node (e.g., MGW, MRFP) and method are described herein that can: (1) receive packets on a first heterogeneous link (e.g., wireless link); (2) manipulate the received packets based on known characteristics about a second heterogeneous link (e.g., “Internet” link); and (3) send the manipulated packets on the second heterogeneous link (e.g., “Internet”-link). For example, the network processing node can manipulate the received packets by adding redundancy, removing redundancy, frame aggregating (re-packetizing), recovering lost packets and/or re-transmitting packets.

  • Publication number: 20050160126
Abstract: Signals of different channels (C1-CN) are combined into one mono signal (x). A set of adaptive filters, preferably one for each channel (C1-CN), is derived in a respective filter adaptation unit (30:1-30:N). When an adaptive filter is applied to the mono signal (x) it reconstructs the signal of the respective channel (C1-CN) under a perceptual constraint. The perceptual constraint is a gain and/or shape constraint. The gain constraint allows the preservation of the relative energy between the channels (C1-CN) while the shape constraint allows more stability by avoiding unnecessary filtering of spectral nulls. The transmitted parameters are the mono signal (x), in encoded form, and the parameters (p1-pN) of the adaptive filters, preferably also encoded. The receiver reconstructs the signal of the different channels by applying the adaptive filters and possibly some additional post-processing.

  • Publication number: 20050149322
Abstract: Polyphonic signals are used to create a main signal, typically a mono signal, and a side signal. A number of encoding schemes for the side signal are provided. Each encoding scheme is characterized by a set of sub-frames of different lengths. The total length of the sub-frames corresponds to the length of the encoding frame of the encoding scheme. The encoding scheme to be used on the side signal is selected dependent on the present signal content of the polyphonic signals. In a preferred embodiment, a side residual signal is created as the difference between the side signal and the main signal scaled with a balance factor. The balance factor is selected to minimize the side residual signal. The optimized side residual signal and the balance factor are encoded and provided as encoding parameters representing the side signal.

  • Patent number: 6847690
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing a received radio signal in a communication system are described. Initial time synchronization is acquired using a trace operator. Then, a number of channel taps for use in further processing is determined based on the initial time sync, also using a trace operator. A final synchronization position is then selected using the number of channel taps and, if multiple branches are employed to receive the signal, using a determinant-based technique. Finally, a channel estimate is determined using the final synchronization position.

  • Patent number: 6820233
Abstract: In packet communications that employ header compression/decompression, the computational complexity of checksum generation can be reduced by re-using static checksum information associated with header bits that do not change from header to header. The static checksum information can be used together with information about header bits that do change from header to header, in order to generate a desired checksum. The checksum can then be used to verify a reconstructed header produced from a compressed header by a header decompressor.

  • Patent number: 6804520
Abstract: In a mobile radio communications system, first radio resources are allocated to a first mobile radio communication. The term “radio resources” relates to one or more resources used to support a mobile radio communication and may include, for example, radio bandwidth, transmit power, signal and data processing hardware and software resources, radio transceiving resources, etc. A second group of radio resources is allocated to a second mobile radio communication. When a block of user information needs to be transmitted that requires an additional amount of radio resources, the first and second mobile radio communications are interrupted or their service levels are reduced for a brief time period. At least part of the block of information is transmitted during that time period using at least some of the first and second radio resources allocated for the first and second mobile radio communications.
