  • Patent number: 9445014
Abstract: A system and method is provided for enhancement of an object in a video frame, where the method includes recognizing and locating an object within an image frame and performing an automatic enhancement process on the object. The automatic enhancement process may include performing image and/or object enhancement on the object to make the object easier for an observer to detect. Such object enhancement may include enhancement to part of the object, such as the perimeter of the object, or to the entire object, and may also include varying enhancement, such as causing enhancing features to blink, flash or otherwise change to catch a viewer's attention, making the object easier to detect.

  • Patent number: 9432555
Abstract: Method and system for measuring audio video synchronization. This is done by having a remote sensing station to measure and process the audio and images from a multimedia terminal that display a television program. The remote sensing station uses an audio sensor to sense the audio signal from the multimedia station and an image sensor to sense the images displayed on the multimedia station. An AV processing circuit in the remote sensing terminal processes the signals from the audio sensor and the image sensor to determine the relative delay between the sensed audio signal and the sensed images. The delay information is then communicated to the multimedia station to adjust the AV synchronization.

  • Patent number: 9305550
Abstract: An apparatus and method for tracking dialogue and other sound signals in film, television or other systems with multiple channel sound is described. One or more audio channels which is expected to carry the speech of persons appearing in the program or other particular types of sounds is inspected to determine if that channel's audio includes particular sounds such as MUEVs, including phonemes corresponding to human speech patterns. If an improper number of particular sounds such as phonemes are found in the channel(s) an action such as a report, an alarm, a correction, or other action is taken. The inspection of the audio channel(s) may be made in conjunction with the appearance of corresponding images associated with the sound, such as visemes in the video signal, to improve the determination of types of sounds such as phonemes.

  • Publication number: 20150042880
Abstract: An invention for measuring, maintaining and correcting synchronization between signals which suffer varying relative delays during transmission and/or storage is shown. The present invention teaches measuring the relative delay between a plurality of signals which have suffered differing delays due to transmission, storage or other processing. The preferred embodiment of the invention includes the use of a marker which is generated in response to a second signal and combined with a first signal in a manner which ensures that the marker will not be lost in the expected processing of the first signal. Subsequently a first delayed marker is generated in response to the marker associated with or recovered from the first signal, and a second delayed marker is generated from the second signal. The first delayed marker and second delayed marker are compared to determine a measure of the relative timing or delay between said first signal and said second signal at said subsequent time.

  • Publication number: 20140335797
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed to receive location data identifying the current location of a vehicle. A database, storing radio device records, is then queried. Each radio device record in the database identifies a radio device (e.g., a transmitter, receiver, transceiver, transponders, etc.) and a location of the radio device using a suitable coordinate system. Radio device records associated with radio devices likely to be within communication range of the vehicle may then be retrieved from the database. These radio device records may be used to generate a radio device list that may be presented to an occupant of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20140166323
Abstract: An apparatus and methods are described for protecting an operator from sudden, unexpected or dangerous movement of powered hand held tools and the like. A set of parameters for safe operation of the tool are provided, which parameters may be adjusted or selected based on the manner in which the tool is being operated. The power tool is fitted with sensors including an accelerometer, operating to sense acceleration of the tool in a plurality of axes during operation. The output of the accelerometer is coupled to a computing circuit which determines if the acceleration of the tool is within the safe operation parameters. When acceleration of the tool exceeds one or more of the safe operating parameters, power to the tool motor is limited or otherwise adjusted in order to prevent or reduce the movement of the tool thereby protecting the operator.

  • Patent number: 8745689
Abstract: Efficient channel surfing in a compressed frame television system is provided by receiving and storing compressed frames representing unwatched channels. Then, when a viewer selects one of the unwatched channels for viewing, the corresponding compressed frame is retrieved from memory and is displayed until a sufficient number of frames are received for that channel to provide for normal viewing of that channel. Corresponding audio clips may also be stored in memory and retrieved and played when the corresponding channel is selected for viewing. Program data may also be stored for unwatched channels for later retrieval and display. Preferably, one tuner/decoder pair is utilized to display programs for selected channels, while a second tuner/decoder pair is utilized to capture and store compressed frames for unwatched channels.

  • Patent number: 8428427
Abstract: An apparatus and methods are described for receiving, storing, and recovering from storage one or more television program while maintaining proper audio to video synchronization or lip sync when the program is displayed. Preferably the audio and video portions are in digital form and may be compressed or uncompressed. The audio and video may be recorded on a physical storage medium such as tape, an optical or magnetic computer disk, or solid state memory or other such device providing user control functions including start, stop, record, play and search, with increased reproduction capability of such stored programs being facilitated by the present invention. Timing information is recovered from the audio and video to be displayed utilized to alter the time duration of a contiguous signal block (the alpha length) of the audio and/or video to correct for any timing errors therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8159610
Abstract: An invention for measuring, maintaining and correcting synchronization between signals which suffer varying relative delays during transmission and/or storage is shown. The preferred embodiment of the invention finds particular use in measuring the relative delay between multiple audio signals and an associated video signal of a television type program which is compressed via MPEG or other compression for a transmission and/or storage system. The invention marks the video signal at a time when a particular event in the associated audio occurs. The mark is carried with the video throughout the video processing. After processing the same event in the audio is again identified, the mark in the video identified, the two being compared to determine the timing difference therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8134644
Abstract: In television type systems having separate data, audio and video portions, it is desirable to maintain or correct the relative timing of the signals by delaying the lesser delayed one(s) to match the delay of the more delayed one(s). A method and apparatus are described where events leading to significant changes in delay of a first, more delayed signal are recognized before that delay change appears in that first delayed signal, for one example by recognizing delay changes made before or at the input to, or within the system. Information about the significant delay change is communicated to a second signal's compensating delay before hand to enable faster and more accurate tracking of the second signal's delay to the first signal's delay.
